“Don’t,” Tyrion says. “I dread what comes out of your mouth when you think too much.”
Jon ignores him.
“At the Wall,” he murmurs, as if the room needed more quiet. “If the worst happens—”
“Here we go,” Tyrion sighs.
“If it comes to that, if you have to choose,” Jon continues. “Save her and let me die.”
“Shut your mouth, Jon,” Tyrion mutters. The outline of his face is like mountains hiding the horizon; he closes his mismatched eyes, pinches what’s left of his nose. “No one is going to die.”

Summary
Victor Nikiforov is the Capitol's darling, the Living Legend who's survived the Games twice. He plays the role well, but mentoring District Ten's tributes year after year is beginning to wear on him in ways he could never have imagined as the terrified sixteen-year-old winner of the 66th Hunger Games.
When Yuri Plisetsky volunteers as tribute, full of fire and fury and determined to win, Victor finds himself wanting to make sure Yuri doesn't die trying. Playing the Capitol's games win him no friends or favor, though, and Victor has to step carefully through a maze of political maneuvering to keep Yuri alive, which isn't easy when Yuri seems to loathe everything about him.
A story of survival and finding companionship in even the darkest hours, Victor will have to overcome the terrible specter of his past if he wants to help Yuri survive his future.

He gives an odd sort of little half smile, then rasps, “Lyanna. I always kept my promises. She would have been so angry with me… otherwise. I had to help her. It was the only way.”
“What was the only way?” Catelyn feels cold sweat dripping down her back, feels slightly feverish herself. “What do you mean, Ned? Did Lyanna ask you to do something?”
“Keep him away… from Robert,” he whispers. “To protect him.”
(Mortally wounded during the Greyjoy Rebellion, a delirious Ned makes a deathbed confession to Catelyn, leaving her to pick up the pieces of both her life and Jon Snow's.)
