David is quitting.
He’s had enough of working for a photography company with an off-the-books philosophy of "sleaze and cheese", he's had enough of getting forced into assignments at the last minute when the company president decides he's flitting off to party with D-list celebrities instead. He’s quitting. This is, in fact, his last job.
At least it's an easy shoot - a puff piece on some up-and-coming Canadian singer-songwriter on the indie circuit who's just been catapaulted to widespread fame. No complications, no controversy. He'll be in his apartment and wallowing in his bamboo-silk sheets before he knows it.

“You’re looking a little lost there sweetheart.”
Patrick startles out of his thoughts, realising that he’s been standing stock still in the middle of the crowd for longer than is advisable.
“Why don’t you come over here and grab some of my shade.”
The voice is coming from under a tent displaying a collection of art works—some black and white, others a vibrant chaotic mix of colours, clashing dramatically with the bright rainbow flag spread over the table at the front of the booth. There’s an acrylic sign with the name “RoseBudd Collective” printed on it to the left; a collection of flyers, stickers and pins are arranged neatly on the right. Standing behind the middle of the table is a man Patrick is almost too intimidated by to look at directly. It’s like staring directly into the sun after a cold, dark winter.
In which Patrick takes an impulsive trip to NYC for Pride and meets David—beautiful, sexy, and clad in leather.

Story is based on the movie Last Holiday. As usual, I’ve only retained the broadest strokes of the movie plot & taken many liberties. You don't need to be familiar with the movie to read this, but I love and recommend it. Queen Latifah is amazing. This was meant to be written with alternating POV by chapters, but David, and especially Patrick, had other ideas and I let them do what they wanted.
