Just keep running. Keep running. Don’t stop.
Grian’s breaths came hard and fast in his chest, his heart pounding from exertion. His wings strained, desperate to beat in time with his racing footsteps. He bit back a whine as the movement caused sharp metal constraints to dig into his delicate feathers. As much as he wanted to, he knew he had to ignore the urge to stop and try to free them. If he stopped running, that would be it. It would all be over.
—and maybe he wouldn’t care if it was just him. Maybe he’d accept going back into captivity if he only had himself to worry about. It's not like Grian had ever known anything better, anyway. But there was something stopping him: the tiny hand in his.

Summary
After all these years, Pearl's finally found Grian.
She thought he had died- after she had sacrificed herself to save him. So imagine her surprise when she joins Hermitcraft, and there he is. Just standing there, like he hasn't just experienced the same earth-shattering revelation that she has. Like none of this matters to him at all.
And maybe it doesn't. But that doesn't seem in character, and there's something slightly off about the way he looks at her. Almost like he doesn't know who she is at all.
AKA a scene from the super-long story idea I've thought about writing for forever now and then just couldn't contain the urge to write this specific part, even though I have other projects to do (but definitely let me know if you want it continued!)
