“Iz told me you were all pally with Steak Knife,” Ed mentions casually after a moment.

“He was nice to me,” Stede says simply. “And I was sad Zheng killed him. But I didn’t really know him. Didn’t know any of them, in fact.”

Ed hums thoughtfully, smiling to himself as he attempts to wriggle down the bed to snuggle into Stede’s chest. “Don’t necessarily have to know ‘em to shag ‘em, mate,” he comments lightly.

He can’t see much more than Stede’s chest hair from this spot, but he can practically see Stede’s expression in the silence that follows. His thoughts are confirmed when he glances upwards; Stede meets Ed’s gaze, frowning with confusion.

    I do.”

Ed and Stede find another way in which they differ. Ed thinks it’s cool as hell.

    Summary

In the spring of 1897, Stede Bonnet hired a rag-tag crew to renovate his family’s long-abandoned estate in Pembrokeshire, Wales. Among this crew was groundskeeper Edward Teach. Eager to stay updated on the project, Stede began a regular correspondence with Ed.

Years later, upon the discovery of their correspondence carefully tucked away in a clothes-stuffed closet of the manor, historians concluded that they were not, in fact, just very good friends.
