When he rises from his crouch, Yibo outstretches his palms and Xiao Zhan places his wrists in them, shuddering as fingers encircle him tightly. They'll be bruised before the night is over, he imagines. If his experience with Langyan is anything to go by, every part of his body will hurt come morning.
He's grateful no one can see his face as Yibo speaks his vows. "I claim you as my own, Xiao Zhan. I take you into my house, and your life into my hands. I grant you guidance, mercy, and protection for as long as you are mine, until we are parted by death. This is my solemn vow." Every oath tightens the noose.
And then it's his turn to speak. Xiao Zhan understands what's expected of him: he lowers his head and repeats the words as the priestess intones them, recognizing Yibo's authority and pledging his obedience, his service, and his loyalty. "...as long as you will have me." Xiao Zhan recites the vows with care for each word, so as to not stumble. "Until we are parted by death. This is my solemn vow." His father's words are a mantra.
Whatever it takes. Whatever it takes.

Summary
Wei Wuxian had it good, for early in his teenage years he discovered a surefire way to "cheat" the system. By convincing everyone around him that he was an omega, he had a built in excuse to hide in seclusion for four or five days at a time and avoid whatever annoyances life had thrown his way. The ruse backfired when Madam Yu grew suspicious, and no one suspected a thing when he actually presented. Karma came for him, and in no subtle way.
A trip to the palace where his sister was supposed to be presented to the Emperor for selection as concubine goes horribly awry when Wei Wuxian ends up in the alpha's bed instead. And things get worse when he's accused of a ruse to steal the Emperor's seed to birth the future crown prince.
All Wei Wuxian wants to do is go back to his idyllic life in Lotus Pier, but extraneous circumstances keep him bound there against his will. And, unwittingly enough, his presence has caused quite the disruption for the small faction of saboteurs who wish to regain the crown for their clan.
