“I’m telling you this is them trying to corner her. Executives are already on their way to Tokyo to the satellite office, they were expecting to drive you there so they can press for names, timelines, anything they can use. It hasn’t leaked yet, but tabloids are sniffing.” Celine’s tone carved away every last illusion of safety.
Across the room, Zoey was crouched in front of Rumi, mimicking some ridiculous dance move to make her laugh. And Rumi was laughing—a smile painted on because she knew how to keep up a brave face. Always.
“Bobby’s securing your exit and I’m shutting down what I can. Don’t move until he gets there. I’m already on a flight. I’ll meet you in an hour.”

Kneeling beside the body—covered head to toe in blood and bearing claws she’d never shown before—was Rumi, her eyes wide and feral. Mira’s face softened, but not in a good way. Her expression reflected back the weight Zoey still felt deep in her bones after the week they’d had.
“Zoey,” she said, gentle as anything. It was scary. Not in the usual Mira-scary way her fans loved. It was scary like a boulder crumbling. Like an avalanche.
