If you woke and I was gone
from the house that we made our home,
Would it bend you, break you, overtake
your heart like it did my own?The day has finally come for the party to split up. The others will be able to visit and keep in touch with each other perfectly fine, they're all in Vaugarde. But...Odile will be across the sea. It will be much harder to keep in touch.
...Ah, but it's all right. She should just be content with the time she's had. She knows no connection she forms can be permanent.
It was inevitable.
~~~
Or, Odile spends a last day with her party. Unbeknownst to her, they have a surprise planned.
...is the hand that rules the world.
When your daughter Mirabelle is born, you hold her and tell yourself you'll protect her to your dying breath. When she cries at night, you fly up to hold her, shush her, until she's asleep again. You buy her toys and comfort her as she teethes. You and Ferdinand have her tested for anything and everything, but luckily she's a very healthy baby. She does take a while to learn to crawl and walk because you keep carrying her everywhere, but that's okay. She can be little and helpless as long as she needs. There's no danger for her.
(You will protect her at all costs.)
. . .
Or, a prologue for "this cradle still burns like a hole in my chest," from the perspective of Mirabelle's mother.
Summary
You shake your head and flick off the last droplets of water. Whatever comes, just pretend like you can handle it. Rain or shine. Success or failure. Fake it for long enough and eventually you’ll feel real, right? Pretend you’re okay and, by the end of it all, you’ll forget you were pretending. Right?
They haven’t figured out you’re an imposter. Not yet, anyway.
or, Mirabelle gets ready for lunch with her friend, and her thoughts don't spiral, not at all, and her memories don't influence her every action, carefully planned and thought out all to stop her friends from moving on. Pre-Game. Pre-Curse. Pre-Everything, really.
