Wukong was the best thing that had ever happened to me. Since that stone cracked open my life on flower Fruit Mountain became so much brighter. Suddenly I wasn't the only outsider. / Macaques never had friends before so he thinks Wukong treating him like a doll is normal.
This is set in LMK past but is heavily inspired by Monkey King 2009 and can be interpreted as a AU of that.

He sighed and brought a paw down to blue quills, slowly grooming the knots and tangles out of them. Sonic complied and laid his head down more, allowing better access for them to get cleaned. The voices around him laughed and whispered about the rest of their daily plans. And dare Shadow mention that it was...
It was perfect.
The chattering around them slowly came to a stop and Shadow raised his head. He was greeted with the odd smiles of his teammates and a blue hedgehog letting out a small murr in his lap.
“Soooo,” Amy started, “Shadow! Sonic, do you have anything you’d like to tell us?”
The two hedgehogs turned to each other, raising a brow before turning back to Amy. Shadow just shrugged before returning to messy blue quills
“No?” Sonic said. A small grin sat on his face, “I mean there was this one time I-“
Shadow snorted, looking at his teammates' twitching eyes and awkward smiles. He finished the last knot and reached around, squeezing a glove-covered paw. The purr in Sonics chest only got louder
Yeeep. He sighed, This was perfect.

Sonic is a naturally messy guy. He doesn’t quite take the time to fix his quills each morning, half-assing it everyday, this was quite normal for him.
Though after coming back from a mission with an absolutely unruly birds nest, Shadow decides to take action without thinking much.
They didn’t exactly mean to make this a routine…
(5 times Shadow groomed Sonic’s quills, and 1 time Sonic returned the favour)

Why was he so lethargic?
“No,” Shadow growled, “stay awake.”
“Alright, whatever…” Sonic muttered, groaning as he sat himself up properly. “What’s… What’s going on?” He squinted at Shadow. “…I’m supposed to know you, aren’t I?”
