As soon as Chuuya’s hand brushed over Dazai’s tense shoulder, something snapped — not just in the brunette, but in the air itself.
It thickened, dragging every breath down into his chest, his lungs struggling as though he’d stepped into a room filled with smoke.
Dazai’s head tilted slightly, his hair clinging damp to his forehead. His face was flushed, a faint sheen of sweat sliding down his temple, catching the dim light. His pupils were blown wide, swallowing almost all the warm caramel of his irises until only the thinnest rim remained.
The sight made something twist deep in Chuuya’s gut — an instinct he couldn’t name. Every muscle in his body tensed on edge, torn with the inexplicable pull to get closer.
“Dazai?”
He’d seen this before—back when he was with the Sheep. The memory was vivid: Omegas crying out in desperation, their scents so dense and cloying the air itself felt suffocating. Luan and the others had taken care of them back then.
But this…
This didn’t make sense.
