Summary
On the hottest day of the year, a hostage situation breaks out in the ER trauma rooms. John Carter, Peter Benton, and Lucy Knight are at the center of it.
John is hurt, badly. Peter's former student. Lucy's teacher. The two of them must work together, under the worst circumstances imaginable, to save his life.
“Please let me help him,” Peter manages to get out, although it’s almost impossible to hear his own words over the pounding of his heart. His voice cracks. “Please. Please. He’s hurt. He’s my friend. He’s… he’s a good person. His name is John. John Carter. Please, man. I helped your friend. Please let me help mine.”

Summary
Dale didn't mean for this to happen. He didn't mean to hurt John. Not like this.
An angry verbal exchange between John Carter and Dale Edson over John's new intern, Lucy Knight, takes a violent turn. They are in the morgue. There is a walk-in freezer. Dale locks Carter inside and leaves him there.
It was only supposed to be for a few minutes. The pathologist was supposed to come right back. He was supposed to let John out.
That's not what happens.
OR: Carter nearly dies from hypothermia.

Summary
Peter Benton's anger over Carter's decision to quit surgery had been stewing for months.
Of course, of course today would be the day that that festering anger exploded out of him. Made him say everything he could think of to hurt Carter. Played on his insecurities, his need for Peter’s approval. Took all that rage and forged it into a knife aimed directly at Carter’s heart.
And now this.
Or: in the aftermath of a shooting in the ER, Peter Benton is finally forced to deal with his emotions - and his fractured relationship with a certain former student.

Lucy is drunk when the idea is suggested. She's sitting in the dorm common area with a few of the other med students, knees tucked to her chest, nursing a bottle of beer, and amongst the hazy half-formed fantasies it's the one that somehow takes flight.
Doctor Carter is strict when it comes to dorm parties- but what if he didn't have to know about them?
She arches her brow, struggling to keep Willy’s ever swaying gaze. What?
Well, think about it. If we made sure there was no evidence in the morning, and somehow kept him out all night… he wouldn't have a clue.
OR
In an attempt to keep Carter from vetoing a dorm party, some of Lucy's fellow students decide to drug him with sleeping pills.

Summary
For a while, he'd kept it hidden beneath forced smiles, continuing to introduce himself to everybody in the hopes that once he grew accustomed to those around him, the nausea would die down.
Except it didn't, and now he's kneeling down in front of Peter Benton's toilet, praying to a God he doesn't believe in that this isn't what he thinks it is.
He cannot be sick.

Post S1 E9, 'ER Confidential'- Carter attends Thanksgiving at Benton's place. Things, predictably, do not go to plan.
