It appears to me to be necessary, at this vital hour, not to be misunderstood. In the course of my present division with Colonel Burr (of which, you will come to see, there have been many, both written and verbal) – there has been no intention from me to evade, defy or insult him. I have a sincere disposition to avoid extremities, but hold that it must be done with propriety.

If there was one thing Burr had learned over the past few years of their separation, it was that there really was no handling Hamilton. Not by patriotic friendship, nor political intimacy. Neither by confrontation nor ignorance. Whether appealing to his virtuous head or his most basic lusts – Burr had tried it all. And it always, no matter what approach was taken, came back to petulant sniping. Burr would’ve just married the man if he knew they were going to eventually resemble a resentful old couple in everything but legal name.

Alexander stayed his hands. Adams looked back up at him, this time with something different -- fear, Alex knew. Their bodies were separated only by the thin braided rope. DO NOT CROSS. Past and present, forbidden and permitted, hatred and attraction -- it was all liminal here, where subservience and independence had intersected a little over 200 years ago.
Alexander was annoyed enough just having to be in Philadelphia to tip the scales and try the odds. It was 50/50 any way you threw it.

Alexander Hamilton has to figure out how he can ignite multiple flour mills in order to take away British supplies. Which is not easy with novice soldiers under his command, pounding rain, and the ever-nearing threat of British forces catching up with them.
By the end of the day he will have been pronounced dead. But there’s no way he’d go down that easily—right?
