Will Byers is perfectly happy with his life.
He has a job he loves at Lantern House Publishing, a department that runs almost entirely on caffeine and stubbornness, and a promotion that has been practically promised for months.
Unfortunately, Will is also an unbonded omega.
Which turns out to matter a lot more than anyone bothered mentioning until the position of Creative Director is suddenly no longer his.
Enter Mike Wheeler: unbonded alpha, lifelong best friend, coworker, occasional problem solver, and apparently the only person in Will's life willing to look at an absurd system and decide to fight it.

A beat. Will was breathing faster now, eyes focusing and unfocusing at what seemed like an uncomfortable speed. The air suddenly felt thicker. His eyes dialed in on the corner of Mike’s mouth.

After Vecna split the earth beneath Hawkins, nothing has been the same. Will's sensitivity to the Upside Down is stronger than ever, Dustin and Lucas are consumed with grief, and Mike and El are not speaking.
Then, Mike falls under Vecna's curse, and the party discovers that his way out of the trance is not through song but through his oldest friend, who is hopelessly in love with him. To be safe, everyone decides it's best if Will does not let Mike out of his sight for the foreseeable future.

Michael Wheeler is grappling with some very complicated feelings after witnessing his best friend not only gain superpowers, but save his life. He is terrified and in denial as feelings he has desperately tried to push down for years keep threatening to surface. He tries to pull back from Will, to distance himself from his feelings and avoid the shame of getting caught. That is, until he winds up in Vecna’s dreamscape, forced to confront his past and those very feelings with none other than Max Mayfield by his side to witness it all.
Basically a rewrite of Stranger Things season 5 volume 2 and 3 from Mike's pov!! I will be going episode by episode and only including the scenes Mike is in, rewritten through my understanding of him as a repressed, closeted queer kid. I have added the byler we deserved but kept the initial plot and content consistent with what happens in the episodes because plot is not my strong suit, and it is nice to have a base to work with. I plan to diverge from the plot in episode 6, and I will most definitely be changing the finale. Anyways, please enjoy my deep dive into Michael Wheeler's confusing brain. I love him so much and relate to him oh so very deeply !!

“Don’t you dare say his name!” Mike screams.
Mike Wheeler is very good at being normal. But after being possessed by Vecna, a lot is brought to light – mostly that he can't stop staring at his best friend.
