“This is the only way,” a younger voice replied. “They won’t stop coming after me, and I fear that they’ll go after my family instead. I can’t take that risk. Besides, someone has to stop them before they hurt anyone else.”
She heard a soft sigh. “Well, you know that I’ll support you in whatever way I can. I’ll spin the story to say that you were never found and I’ll reach out to my contacts to see what I can set up for you. In the meantime, just rest and get feeling better.” The older woman went to leave.
“Director,” the young woman called out and the older paused. “Thanks.”
“Don’t thank me just yet, Sierra. You have a lot of work ahead of you.”
