Summary
Pericles of Chios may have saved his people by surrendering, but it's harder to remember why he'd done it when he's facing the prospect of being married off to a complete stranger from among the lords of Paros. The farce of the wedding games, with his hand as the prize, is bad enough — the lifetime of pain and humiliation he has to look forward to once he's married will be even worse.
Kephalos of Paros, a poor, scruffy lord of a few barren rocks and a few scruffy goats, has been in love with the prince of Chios nearly as long as he'd known what love meant. When the prince's wedding games are announced, he rapidly loses all hope of escaping with his heart intact.

Summary
A few months before Anereth is due to start attending school in the capital, he receives an unexpected birthday present in the form of a personal slave. And it's not that he doesn't see the advantages of having one, but he has books to read and spells to study, and there's just not a lot of time to concern himself with strangely unenthusiastic bed slaves.
Unfortunately, said bed slave does not do well being ignored, or being touched, or being a bed slave at all. And Anereth quickly realizes he will have to do something about that, because while he's not sure how to feel about having to deal with a personal slave, he knows he doesn't want to have to deal with a dead one.
