Summary
At first Minghao thinks he might be hallucinating. He blinks once, twice, even rubs his eyes with the heel of his palms just to make sure. Every time he opens them the result is the same. Junhui is still there, standing off to the side of the dance floor, chewing on his bottom lip. He looks exactly like he did last time, naturally. Same strands of bleach blonde hair falling in his face, same faint black liner smudged over his eyelids, same baggy clothes hanging off of his limbs. When Minghao moves, he rights the tilt of the room with every step. The strange lopsidedness of before gradually shifts into equilibrium. Junhui, also brought back to balance, notices Minghao and visibly brightens right away. Once again, Minghao feels all of the air from his lungs get knocked elsewhere. A bit of a dramatic response, given the circumstances. Given what Junhui said before.
In a city like Eunoia, it's easy to forget what you're missing outside of it.

Summary
"A year," Junhui says again. "A year is a long time to spend with someone if they don't care. He makes time for you?"
Even though they occasionally go days or weeks without meeting, when Minghao reflects on it, it's rarely by Mingyu's doing. Minghao is usually the one turning down late nights or rearranged flights in favor of keeping his obligations in line. Mingyu texts when his calls go unanswered. He's always the first between them to deescalate arguments, too. He never stops inviting to Minghao to things even when he repeatedly says no.
"Yes."
"Then maybe you're the problem."
For the first time, Minghao has to decide if he will keep standing at the edge of something good or finally step into it.

She expects her voice to be hoarse when she finally speaks, but it comes as clear as ever: “What happened?”
“You died,” he says, simple. At least he offers her a frown as consolation.
“Oh.”
“Yeah.”

Summary
When his gaze flicks back, Su-bong’s knelt in front of him, staring. Beaming. Eyes full of this sparkle Nam-gyu’s only been privy to in the moments that something real special’s come their way: his first record deal, when they moved into this building, getting their first car. Things like that. But this is — they’re just talking, it’s nothing.
Chancing a glance down, something else glimmers at him, too.
Silver. Dainty. Settled neat and clean in a little blue box that sits perched in Su-bong’s trembling hands. “I’m sorry,” he exhales, and if Nam-gyu wasn’t so fixated on the sight before him, the words may have been swallowed by the night with how quiet they’re said. “I couldn’t wait to ask.”
OR: Eight scenarios encountered by Nam-gyu & Su-bong as they traverse the motions of getting married; for domestic thangyu week.

Summary
Thanos could shove him off if he needed it that bad, but he doesn’t. Nam-gyu grinds down harder, just to test and — Thanos whines again — that stupid, high-pitched thing from before. As if Nam-gyu’s just the cruelest little minx in the world. His lips curl up into a smile.
He shakes his head, leaning in so their cheeks brush, lips pressed against the skin below Thanos’ ear. ”No.”
Not what Thanos wanted to hear. He groans again, and Nam-gyu swears he can feel Thanos’ skin turn pink beneath his own. “What are you —?”
“Stay, boy.”

Summary
Really, the inside should be no different than the outside. The floor still underfoot, air is still thick in his lungs, and his pulse still hammers fast in his throat. Thanos is only a man before him, the same as before. Nothing is different.
Is it?
The lie is thin.

Summary
Mostly, Nam-gyu wants to keep it the way it is, just cleaner. Maintain that artistic integrity it already holds, and merely play on the potential that’s already there. Make it ugly and beautiful and impossible to replicate. Something built out of broken things.
That’s why he loves it so much — because he can look at something wrecked and say, yeah, that’s worth keeping.

Summary
“You really aren’t upset?”
Su-bong’s voice has softened to something barely audible. Testing, floating around, waiting for the explosion in a place where it’s unnerving not to hear the boom. The question hangs and Nam-gyu understands, easily, it’s not just about this. Everything else has come spilling out in tandem with crimson: the past, the unspoken, the mess bleeding out across both of their lives.

Summary
There were too many years where Gyeong-su’s birthday had come and gone with nothing more than a group chat message and a sad slice of store-bought cake. Not this time. Not on her watch. She was going to give him a birthday so good he’d be embarrassed to talk about it.
OR: My birthday gift to the most beloved and most deranged squid I know, Bee.

Summary
Nam-gyu lulled his head to the side, breath stirring the flattened hair at Thanos’ temple. The intensity of his gaze was gone, but his presence pressed in heavier than ever.
This was what they did. Circled the line but never crossed it.
Just pink bubblegum on the tongue: sweet, soft, fleeting. Something you chewed until it lost its taste, then swallowed anyway because it felt wrong to let it go.
