Summary
Sometimes being a superhero isn’t really about the big epic battles to save the world; sometimes it’s about the quieter moments before, after, and in between. Eddie is a former sidekick taking on a bigger mantle after his uncle’s retirement. Steve is the genetic offspring of the world’s greatest hero and said hero’s greatest enemy, trying to live up to a legacy he only partially understands. Over the course of several years, they move in and out of each other’s lives, for better or worse, until they eventually reach the path to their happy ending.

“Hey,” Eddie says, brightening up. “Wanna get out of here?”
Steve frowns, peers over the edge. “We’re stuck on a ferris wheel,” he points out.
Eddie claps his hands together. “What, you scared–uh… what’s your name?”
“Steve.”
“Steve,” Eddie says, rolling it over his tongue like it’s candy. “You scared, Stevie?”
Steve feels the nickname burn down his spine and coil somewhere lower than that. He’s not sure why that’s what does it, but he shakes his head. He used to be the type of person to jump into things headfirst. He wants to be that person again.
“Not at all,” he lies, and wipes his suddenly sweaty palms on his slacks.

Charlotte’s run off her feet as always, and she always leaves her cell in her locker, so the first she hears of it is when she’s called over to the main desk by one of the nurses.
Trina’s just finished folding laundry when her cell rings. It’s been a normal Thursday so far: she’s dropped Jason at school, spent the rest of the morning volunteering at the local Goodwill, met some friends for lunch, and started on some chores at home. She looks at her screen and is surprised to see Marvin’s name flashing there.

Cellbit quickly cuts him off, “What’s your name, if you don’t mind me asking? I feel like it’s only fair, since you apparently know so much about me.”
The guy schools his expression into something more neutral, but Cellbit can tell he’s just dying to be rude- he probably would’ve already had some sort of smart ass response if they weren’t currently in a classroom surrounded by other parents. Instead, the man responds, “My name’s Roier. My son’s name is Bobby, in case you were wondering that, too.”
Cellbit definitely was wondering, so he can tell Richarlyson which kid to stay away from.
