Summary
Meeting Sherlock Holmes offered all that his months in London had failed to provide and all of a sudden, John felt like he was six again, staring up at his Dad with complete and utter awe and trust and an overwhelming pride in the hero before him. Sherlock Holmes was a drug, an addiction to replace the monotony and John fell deeply in love with every inch of him.
Sherlock, for his part, was as reciprocal as he could be, given his nature. In his fashion, there was a love for John inside of him, too, a need to be with the man who had waltzed into his life and made it stable, made it possible to find somebody who accepted him, flaws and perfections inclusive, without question or demand.
They say you shouldn’t make people into heroes...
For what they meant to one another, they cancelled out their need for something heroic - there were no more heroes of intent, just people in the right place, at the right time, for the right reasons promising that no matter what the other needed, they were there to break the monotony, to be necessary and still, somehow, be heroic.
