The story begins with Mitranis, a young recusant raised in the Volcanic Manor and trained from a young age for that purpose. He unexpectedly finds himself in Wailing dunes, the great terrain where Radhan, Starscourge, roams. This confusing situation becomes the beginning of a radical change in Mitranis' life, who unexpectedly goes from being a recusant to following a Tarnished called Hestia, who can follow the guidance of grace and has the ambition to reach the Elden Ring.
Together, Hestia and Mitranis will travel through the Lands Between to defeat the Demigods, bearers of the Great runes left over from the Shaterring. They will discover that the history passed down from long ago is not what it seems to be, and that the Age of the Erdtree hides terrible secrets. They will encounter a threat that tries to consume the Lands Between, and that helps Mitranis discover his origin, linked to both light and darkness.

Gelmir, Rykard slips closer to despair. Now the self-declared king of Leyndell, Miquella struggles to wrest public support away from Marika and her false prince. Beset by memories not his own, Godwyn seeks out the true nature of the entity with which he has become entangled.

Kalé is a careful man. He sells his wares, tends his fire, and knows better than to expect anything from the Tarnished who pass through the Lands Between. They come for wares, for directions, for advantage, and then they move on, drawn forward by Grace toward ruin or glory with equal indifference.
But there is one who keeps returning to his camp.
She does not speak much, but she listens. She spares where others would kill. She survives what should have broken her, and leaves the world slightly less damaged than she found it. Against his better judgment, Kalé begins to wonder if this Tarnished might be different: if she might truly be the champion Grace promised, capable of bringing peace to the Lands Between, and perhaps a place in it for people like him.
Hope, he knows, is a dangerous indulgence. His people gave it up long ago. And yet, the future she promises is too beautiful not to follow, even if it leaves no place for the man he’s been.
