Summary

Eight years ago, the doors to the afterlife were used as a seal to lock the darkness of the Shadow Realm away once and for all. Ryou - despite everything he'd endured over the years - secretly saved Bakura from being banished forever. It should have been a fresh start. And, for a time, it was. When a chance encounter shatters Bakura’s carefully constructed routine, he is forced to ask himself how much he believes in coincidence as he weighs the blood debt on his soul. Yugi Muto has disappeared without a trace. A Cult claims to be working in Bakura's interest, though his instincts scream otherwise. Unlikely deals are struck as the past comes back bearing teeth. Getting railed by five dudes in front of Zorc hadn't been the answer to healing Bakura. Months after the events at the end of Yu-Gi-Oh! (DM) Bakura Ryou is feeling completely lost. He is haunted by the memories of his life possessed by his darker side, and with all of his friends moving on with their lives he is left all alone to suffer with these memories.
Painful questions wrack his every waking moment; who am I really? Who am I without my darker self? How much of that self was the evil spirit, and how much was it myself? Is it wrong to miss the parts of that dark self that made me feel... free?
Meanwhile Marik Ishtar is asking himself the same questions. Now that the responsibility of being Tomb Keeper has passed with the loss of the Millennium Items, he has no clear future, and like Bakura, only a melange of painful memories and questions.
This fic is about Bakura and Marik connecting about their shared experience and trying to discover who they are as individuals, and as romantic partners, with all the risks and dangers that come with trying to call upon those dangerous parts of ourselves we hide from the light of day.

Lastly, a small trip turns into a battle against the deities of time and space, but luckily, Yugi and Atem are able to find a way to quell both deities and restore harmony to their home.
