I wrote one story because I had an idea of what Arthur and Eames' last conversation would sound like. It grew exponentially. As far as I'm concerned, this story is complete. Maybe more will come, but I honestly doubt it. You'll understand why if you get to the end...
I've been told a lot of things about this series, but mostly that even people who don't like Major Character Death still kind of dig it. Which is great and makes a lot of sense, because I don't like reading MCD either and I wrote it. Maybe you'll like it too?

Summary
Arthur and Eames are soul mates so when they meet, they bond. It should be a simple, love-at-first-sight kind of thing, but the problem is Arthur is pining over Mal, Eames is terrified of bonding and neither of them actually realised it happened.
So they just go about their daily lives, not understanding what's wrong, until Arthur finally does work it out. And, even then, they need to stop being in denial and decide what they're gonna do about it.
Because being in love is difficult, especially when you didn't know you'd fallen.

The team has four rooms rented out in the hotel for housing, and yet somehow everyone seems to end up in Cobb's.
To make things worse, they found his art supplies.

Eames and Arthur argued about colors for a solid thirty minutes, so loudly Cobb was worried they would get complaints.
That was how they found out that Arthur was red/green colorblind, and Eames stopped arguing.

Eames stayed later, doodling in the notebook while Arthur watched. All the way up until Cobb decided to finally sleep, Eames had thrown off his shoes and was sitting on the opposite bed with a pencil, practicing faces on the paper. He was good at faces, Cobb noticed, but of course he would be. His doodling was just as good as anything Cobb had seen on university easels, but he did it so casually."You've got a nice face," Eames mumbled sleepily. "It's symmetrical. Easy to draw."
"My goal in life," Arthur sighed, undoing his tie. "To be easy to draw." Then, "You should really be going to bed."
"You're right. Goodnight." Eames faked falling asleep immediately on the bed, to Arthur's annoyance, and got decently shoved onto the floor. It took a good deal more difficulty to get him to leave the room, and when he was gone, Arthur shut the door firmly, but he was breathless, laughing in a way Cobb hadn't seen in a while.
The notebook had fallen in the gap behind Arthur's bed, and as Arthur went to wash up, Cobb grabbed it and opened it. It was almost half full now. There were a lot of Ariadne's pages. A few buildings you could see from the balcony. A hasty sketch of the Eiffel Tower, probably done from a moving vehicle. A particularly fat pigeon. A street sign for a bakery.
A quarter of the way in, Eames had taken over, and there was definitely a pattern. It was overwhelmingly Arthur. Portraits, done with amazing attention to detail. Arthur's eyes. Arthur's hands. Both drawn with the care and precision of someone who didn't spend much time looking at anything else. Cobb had never noticed anything particularly amazing in either, but they way they were depicted, you'd think Da Vinci himself had sculpted them. Eames had turned Arthur into art.

Eames strolled in shortly after, critiquing all the errors Arthur was making in his ink lines, while Arthur countered that Eames didn't know the first thing about pens. -

“My accomplice?”
Arthur pauses.
“Well, when you put it like that.”
“I knew you'd get the right spirit babe. But don’t play dumb. We don’t really talk about this but you've got page after page on that moleskine just covered with name. And also some really cool drawings, I knew you didn’t pay attention to half of what Cobb says.”
“Hey, pay attention.”
Eames is unimpressed.
“He rambles a lot,” Arthur concedes. “And repeats himself, I don’t have to write all that twice.”
“I believe that babe.”
“Why are we discussing this and not the part where I admitted to be a crazy person?”
That makes Eames hesitate. “Are you? A 'crazy person'?”
Arthur doesn’t see how that's the point. “Don't you think I am?”
“No.” Eames sits up straighter. He drops the puzzle back on the table, like he’s finally about to take this seriously. “No, I don’t think you are,” he starts, slowly. “I think- Christ Arthur, if you mean that literally, if that’s real and you've got some way to know about that, you can see that, I think you have an amazing gift.”
God. Arthur can barely breathe.
All the fight leaves him in a rush.
He hoped, but he just didn’t expect an answer like this. For a moment, he thinks he might cry.
“No, Arthur, it’s okay.” Eames stands up and draws him into a hug. Arthur is shaking. He might be shaking, he doesn’t know. He loses sense of self. Eames just holds him close and murmurs encouragement into his hair. ‘It's okay,’ and ‘we're fine dear,’ and ‘shh.’
Arthur just hangs on tight and tries to breathe.
A few moments pass in silence. Eames sighs.
“You wrote you ‘should tell Eames.’ Why? Is that what this is about? Are you gonna break up with me because you still have to meet the person on the other side?”
Arthur blinks. Very slowly. And then he blinks again.
..what?
It's so clear to Arthur, it's just been so clear for such a long that it doesn’t even cross his mind that Eames wouldn’t know.
“Eames… you’re the person on the other side.”
That stops Eames in his tracks. He seems genuinely surprised at that one. Slowly, he starts to smile.
“Convenient then, huh?”
It can't possibly be this easy.
"You don't mind?"
Eames is looking at him with such kindness Arthur can barely handle it. He brushes a thumb down Arthur's cheek, and leans down to press a kiss to his lips.
"I don't mind."
