  Time-Loop AU.

  Tony gets stuck in a time-loop for unknown reasons. He's there so long the world isn't real to him anymore, there are no consequences, he's having mental health issues, and memory issues as well (clarity of events from his life Before). Then one day things are different when Loki shows up to talk to Thor, and kills Tony. The next cycle Loki shows up and they realize they're in the loops together. Loki kills him again, so of course Tony kills him the next day. Lots of murdering each other to vent before a Truce is called. They decide to work together to figure this out. Loki's condescending (how would a *Midgardian* of all races be able to contribute, he's already consulted all the smartest people in the other realms), but Tony actually has a lot of good ideas and excellent questions to research. It's clear they need to combine advanced physics and magic, so they swap lessons (not like they don't have to time to take to learn and catch up). Grudging respect turns into some enjoyment together and concern for Tony's mental health/memory struggles. (The one area Loki never uses to mock the other man.) Engage in casual sex when bored, turns into a semi-regular thing, then more care and feelings (and codependency) develop, they open up to each other about their pasts (Loki's done a LOT of soul-searching and healing, and now he's being open with Tony about it). They figure things out, get their way out of the loops and back into normal time. Some trouble with SHIELD (not believing their story and thinking Tony's under Loki's mind control), and it takes Thor showing up to get someone to believe them, wherein Loki also confesses (angrily and desperately) that Tony is his beloved, and while he doesn't care for Midgard, he'll play nice so long as Tony wants to stay there. Tony opens up to Rhodey and Pepper, Loki opens up to Thor, they have a frank discussion and team up (Tony found out all the dirt on SHIELD/Hydra and wants to bring them down). Things looks promising for their future, which they get to HAVE ONE now. Very hopeful ending.
