The hurricane should have killed him.
It tore him out of the reef and left him half-dead on a shore where human hands found him before the sea could take him back.
The fighting pits should have killed him.
Over twenty-five bouts, blood-clouded water, teeth and claws and crowds screaming for him as he became Legend.
Legend thought rotting away in Yuga's glass cage would kill him.
Behind glass, under lights, with a sealed lid above him and infection eating through him, Legend had started to understand that he might not survive being kept.
That was before a stranger with green eyes and indigo hair walked into Yuga’s office, looked at him too closely, and came back to steal him away.
But Legend is not salvage, and unfortunately for Ravio, Legend has no intention of being anyone's treasure.

Legend fell out of the portal and landed in the water with a splash. He swam to the surface, ready to look for the nearest path to land, and…
Water stretched as far as the eye could see, and further still, on to the edges of the world. This was an ocean. Wind’s world, maybe? The sky above enclosed the world, bright blue dotted with fluffy white. It thankfully didn’t look like it would storm soon, but Legend knew how quickly that could change on the water. The portal above that had dumped him here had disappeared. Great, a separation portal. Legend loved those.

The portals dump Legend, alone, in the middle of the Great Sea. His rescuer is not what he seems. Legend is not doing well.

Summary
At the end of their adventure, the four heroes of the Four Sword must become one yet again. Unexpectedly, though their bodies became one, their minds remained separate. With sadness in their hearts over Shadow's sacrifice, they (primarily Vio) research ways to bring him back. They succeed in doing just that, and they live a normal life together for a while. That is until a portal brings them on another adventure with many other "Links" from across time.
It was very concerning for the colors when suddenly, while walking with the chain, Shadow states, "something's wrong." before disappearing from their now shared body. It was even more concerning for the rest of the chain when Four collapsed to the ground a moment later, completely unresponsive.
Where Shadow ended up though was definitely not what anyone could have expected. He appeared in a group of people who all claimed they were in a romantic relationship with a Link. Now, with no other known objectives, they have to search for the chain as they continue traveling through different portals across time.

The ship tilts in the storm, sending Legend's feet skidding toward the railing without something to hold on to. Hyrule slips. A wave comes crashing over the side of the boat with bruising force. Their eyes meet. Hyrule's going to go over the side. Hyrule can't swim.
Legend leaps. Hyrule braces. They both get swept violently over the railing.

“You should get help,” Four noted as the bodyguard hissed in pain. “They say Manticore poison can kill in less than a minute. Probably closer to ten, with someone your size.”
The bodyguard stopped to stare him down. Its gums pulled back into a smile before it laughed, blood coating its teeth. The man limped, as much as he could, back down the alley.
He didn’t turn back to the plaza. Which can only mean he is more afraid of admitting someone got into the building. He can’t get any help going back inside.
If the punishment is that severe for members, Four can only imagine what horrors await intruders.

I was terrified of what would happen if they saw me for what I really was. I had spent a lifetime being a hero, a savior, and a warrior across multiple lives and lands. But I had also seen how the world treated things that were "other." I had seen the way people looked at the monsters we fought—with a mix of revulsion and cold, clinical curiosity.
If they knew I was a creature of the water, a selkie stripped of his skin and forced to walk on two legs like a common Hylian, I would become a specimen. I would be the "oddity" of the group, a fragile thing that needed to be kept in a jar. I would rather die in the dust than see that look of alienation on their faces. So, I kept my jaw set, my secret buried deep beneath layers of linen, leather, and bravado.
But the desert is a cruel confessor. It strips away everything until only the truth remains.

"How long have I been out?" He got straight to business, figuring that Hyrule either would explain the fairy form or he wouldn't but that they likely had bigger fish to fry.
"Not too long, I don't think so anyway. The trapdoor we fell down opened after everyone else had crossed, but I know they wouldn't have wasted any time trying to follow us down."
Legend frowned at the words, struggling to remember the trapd-
oh right, the stupid thing had faded from being solid for some unknown reason, and he hated not knowing how a dungeon trap worked.
But considering all he felt was a massive headache and Hyrule had clearly given himself wings to save his body from the fall he should be more injured.
He raised a tired hand to his face and paused looking at the claws on the end of each finger and the shimmering, shining scales scattered on his forearm. A glance down confirmed that yep, the water was deep enough here that he would have drowned if he hadn't transformed.
"Looks like we both have some explaining to do, huh?" he said with a rueful smile as he extended a hand so Hyrule could rest his wings.
