Ford and Mcgucket's portal was miscalibrated. So naturally, they find the nearest scientist and try to get back to Gravity Falls, however this leads to a two to three week long road trip which includes a lot of talk about music and a lot of angst. Also Ford's chapters are from the POV of him writing in his journal. And Cecil still has to give the town updates. Also Carlos is like, lowkey burnt out so yeah. Also I feel like I should mention I only just started listening to Night Vale a few weeks ago, so sorry for any inconsistancies. And yeah, I know the title is weird, but just deal with it. I've listened to a lot of Will Wood okay?..... and part of it is a reference to a Percy Jackson the musical song, yeah. Stay ahead and don't get dead and stay alive!

“Just to make it clear, before you get the wrong idea, I am going to be the scientist for a little bit, dear Carlos.” Cecil’s voice came from behind the divider, “I know that you would never do science on me, and that is not at all what is going to be happening here.”
Carlos closed his eyes for a moment and took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. He was quickly forming a hypothesis, trying to fight the metallic tang of panic as he worked through the different evidence and conclusions. He couldn’t be sure if he had been officially re-educated, or if it was just that specific memories had been targeted and altered, perhaps even removed altogether. In the end, he supposed it didn’t really matter.
Knowing himself and his proclivities as well as he did, it was entirely possible that he had attempted to do sexy science research on Cecil more than once, and that would certainly help explain why something that should have fascinated him made him start exhibiting several fear responses.

Carlos gets a call from Cecil not long after the rumbling stops. Cecil surprises him by asking if he'd seen Kevin in the desert other-world at all, and if he thinks he got hurt during the rumbling. He reveals that Kevin has a sister that wants to know if he's alright.
Kevin is right next to Carlos when this happens, and doesn't respond well to realizing Strexcorp had made him forget about his sister.
(part of my Moodring verse, where Cecil and Kevin meet first and have a rather heavy flirtation before Kevin gets Strexed. Cecil and Carlos still get together when Carlos comes to NV, and things follow canon pretty closely until just after the Rumbling episode)

“...Carlos?” Came Kevin's voice. His voice got fainter, and Carlos could just imagine him holding the phone away from himself. “You called Carlos?! I’m fine-”
“Carlos will help!” Alicia's voice was much quieter now, thankfully. “He is very good at helping, we know this!”
“What exactly am I helping with?” Carlos asked.
He tried not to make his wariness too obvious. He hadn't bothered to talk to anyone in the desert other-world since he came back to Night Vale a couple of months ago. Kevin had been the only one to try and reach out, but Carlos had ignored the one text from him and that had been that.
“I am so sorry, Carlos!” Kevin sounded genuine, but after ten years Carlos knew the only way to really tell would be by his facial expression. “I know you must be very busy with your science things. And Cecil, of course!”
“Kevin,” Carlos cut in before Kevin rambled on too much. “Alicia wouldn't ask me for help unless this was something she couldn't do herself. What's wrong?”
“Well… I, uh…”
Carlos had never heard Kevin hesitate so much before. He decided to just wait, knowing that pushing could result in more wasted time.
“I can't see,” Kevin admitted.
