Notes:
The basic premise of this story is: What if Hatake Kakashi was a refugee from Uzushio?
This isn't canon, due to the contradictory nature of canon where Uzushio is mentioned, like twice, and never explicitly when it was destroyed (either shortly before or shortly after Kushina came to Konoha which was during her academy years -- and there's between 3 and 6 years depending on context of academy years.) so it could have still been standing when Kakashi was born.
Pretty early in the series it is established that Kakashi is a genius only matched by Itachi, but then in the flashbacks to the Third Shinobi War (where Kakashi is supposed to be jounin) they prohibit him together with Gai, Asuma and Kurenai to join the fight?
Also: Konoha as a village, is pretty young -- I put the official age at about 70 at the start of the series, and how can Uzushio be known as the village of longevity if it hadn't been established for even one lifetime?
There was literally no consistency across the series, and plot points were ret-conned all the time, so don't expect me to remember all of them.
This story has a greater age difference between Kakashi, and his shinobi generation, and puts the destruction of Uzushio on October 10th (-24years to Naruto's graduation) because of dramatic purposes.[Fic1]

Summary:Uzushiogakure is destroyed as the opening act of the Second Shinobi War as a move against Konoha. Some of the surviving citizens seek refuge in its greatest ally, and while the village adapts the whirlpool as a symbol, the people somehow fall through the cracks.
Hatake Kakashi was born to Uzushio natives, and sometimes, he doesn't even feel the weight of a destroyed village behind him.
