That's why I tend to stick with fics. It's like canon osmosis. People with more canon knowledge write things, and I in turn get more canon knowledge xD Fun times

Jason casually going feral over the fact that Tim "has the self-preservation of a wet paper bag" Drake regularly stays up for over 48 hours with little sleep before or afterwards. I can imagine he'd call Roy in a flurry of protective, disbelieving rage over Tim's very existence. Wally's probably with Roy, just two redheads chillin, and they both get to hear Jason near sobbing over the fact that Tim tried to rip his eyeball out because he was awake for almost seventy hours with more caffeine in his body than blood, vibrating like an agitated speedster, and mistook Jason as one of the ninjas that Ra's al Ghul just sometimes sends him. The man needs a break.
He doesn't bully competitors in the traditional trash-talk, name-calling sense. He systematically dismantles their mental well-being with well-timed jabs at their psyche. He's edited as the villain of the season, but reddit has a field day trying to psychoanalyze "the not dead Wayne kid". Tim will say something particularly unhinged and chaotic when Jason's bringing something up to the pass and is in earshot, and Jason makes a point to yell at him. When questioned about the outburst, he just goes "that's just my fatass gremlin brother. Don't worry about him. He lives to torment me wherever I go. I can't get rid of him." Tim cackles in the background, and it's only by way of a miracle and several thousand dollars in bribes that he's not kicked out.
See, the problem with this is that I'm now highly considering writing this at some point, because I can picture it so well in my mind XD Jason: *appears, kicks ass, wins, does not elaborate, leaves* Everyone present: What the hell just happened... Dick: *enthusiastic older brother clapping. he wipes a tear from his eye and sniffles dramatically* That's my little wing.
I will admit that a large amount of my knowledge is from fics, but it's also mixed with actual comics and tumblr posts explaining canon. I've read a few fics that follow canon really well, I think the best one was a familial soulmate au that follows canon up until after Jason's return. It was really good, I remember it vividly.
Yep, you just have to wait until the ideas emerge. I am happy to say that I started the Jason & Tim fic in my notes app and that each section has a tiny summary that I can expand on. I'll probably work on that after I finish this comment.
Jason was not expecting to have to deal with sleep deprivation and ninja attacks on top of feeding and hugging this younger sibling of his. They both need a nice long break.
Yeah, Jason isn't mean as much as he is just... really really good at figuring out peoples' weak spots. I was reading a fic last night where Dick was musing about how Jason is very good at knowing when to say things to hurt and how to do it, so he really wouldn't be a bully as much as he'd just be really good at wording his comments and targetting things his competitors or teammates did wrong.
It would be hilarious to see or read a Justice League cooking show with Jason crashing the party. I'm nowhere near well-versed enough in Justice League lore to be able to write it, though.

It's called "a ripple in the wound and wake" by countrycoleslaw. That fic is absolutely incredible and a massive sucker-punch of emotions to the gut. 10/10 recommend.

I can also say that I'm about 3.3k words into Jason's birthday special....I've made myself tear up once already, and it's getting way more out of hand than I was planning (it's not even close to done pfft), but I love it so far. It's so soft but sadly bittersweet, and I can't wait for people to read it. Hopefully, I can finish it by the 16th, because I've been crazy busy recently and haven't had much writing time at all lol.

I'm not super well-versed in JL lore either, but I think a fic like that probably wouldn't need too much lore stuff anyway, so long as it's kept to the founding/closer members. Maybe I could add it to my series with Jason and Dick...hmmm.. xD
Yup, I have it bookmarked because it was so good. The name is "A Cruel Trick of the Heart" by Goldmallow. It's over 200k words, and it does get pretty angsty at times, but I loved it. I know the time travel fic you're talking about, it's on my "Marked For Later" list! I've been meaning to get to it but I have a lot of open tabs for various fics and despite my best attempts, I just keep opening more. I definitely read more fanfic than I write lol.
It probably won't be out for a while, but I am excited to work on it. I'm looking forward to the Jason birthday special, but I understand that things can get busy. I even have a tiny note in my bio that says I might not reply to comments for a while when I'm busy.
This is what all those really successful fic writers mean when they say they get ideas from other writers and it motivates them to write. Several comment conversations and a secondary connection and bam: fic ideas everywhere.

No worries. Sometimes, good things take a while to be made ^_^ The Jason bday special is slow going. I'm only at about 4k at the moment, but I think the massive busy time I just had should be dying down a bit. That's a good idea to have that in your bio though.
Honestly XD That's why I love comments so much. Just one thing or one conversation can either take an already existing fic in a different direction or create ideas for something brand new. It's so fun to just have mini brainstorming sessions.

I hope you do! It's a really good fic. I agree, I have no idea how people can write such long fics. I am in awe of the authors with multiple fics over 50k or dozens of shorter fics. Trying to keep up almost seems impossible.
Sometimes you need some extra time to think things through and figure out how they'll fit together. I had some motivation over the weekend to write something completely different, so that got a lot of my attention instead of my other fic, which is still at 300 words.
Putting info about how busy I am is something I did for a different writing site, and I decided to do the same thing here. It's useful in case anyone wants to know more about me and why I don't respond to comments for a while.
Yeah, it's fun discussing ideas and getting new ones, talking about the progress of WIPs, and recommending fics and stuff. On other writing sites, I never interacted this much with people except through short comments and responses, never chains like this one. It's super cool.
Considering I once read a fic series (It's called "for the birds" by thirdgleam. Very cool time-travel/dimension travel tim-centric fic series) that's about 250k on and off in a single weekend, I'll probably get to it sooner rather than later xD For me, it's the long fics that are written over years that really have my respect. So many things can change in that time period, but the people who stick with their stories through to the end have my utmost admiration. The dozens of shorter fics are really impressive too. I aspire to write that much xD
Definitely! For the Jason b-day special, I've gone back through all I have so far and have reworded things multiple times to help get things across. Just changing a few words took something that was just a device for travel be a subtly really sentimental thing. It's fun to play around with that sort of stuff for sure. I totally understand having to write something else for a bit too! It's good that you're still writing, even if it's not the planned fic :D

I asked the same thing to someone in a different comment section, but like...the other day, I was just washing dishes, little Jason just came over and punched my brain with an idea. What do you mean you want me to write a fic about you growing up in an underground gladiator arena with an even worse Willis and Catherine and only get adopted by Bruce after he busts the operation??? Where did it come from? No idea, but little Jason went "It's neat :)" and then dipped. I've been plagued with the idea ever since XD
Ah, the time travel/dimension travel fics are always interesting. I haven't heard of that one, but I do have a few time travel fics marked for later that I want to get to at some point. Long fics are always amazing, it's like literally reading an entire book or book series, but depending on the day or week I'm having, I can lose interest if I get too busy. I have 26 fics marked for later, and most of them are over 20k. Someday I'll get to them all, hopefully soon, but who knows.
Yeah, even just changing a few lines to make things easier to understand. I'm currently writing three different fics and switching between them when I get ideas for one or lose motivation for another. I tend to write a lot of buildup for some reason, like I need to establish the setting and what's going on before I get to the actual plot.
I get weird ideas at really weird times. Sometimes it's an idea for an au while I'm doing that thing, other times it just happens. Last week I was driving and a song came on and I went "this sounds like Bruce mourning Jason" and there was a new fic idea. I'd like to write it, I think it would be cool. Just also really painful since I'd write it from Bruce's pov. Your fic idea is pretty cool. I'd suggest writing down a short summary of what you have and want to do and then continue with your other projects. That's what I've started doing.

Definitely. That's about what I do as well, with the switching between fics :D Buildup is sometimes necessary to really get a plot going. So, I definitely get that. Speaking of writing fics, chapter one of my Jason special is up :D Hopefully, the other chapter won't take too long :')

I'll probably end up doing that for my idea, especially since two or three more have cropped up in its place, but as the ideas fester, they tend to change over time xD So, it'll probably be moved a little to the left by the end of the week :'D
Time travel things are so cool if they're done right. I have two or three bookmarked because they were so good. My first experience with reverse robins was actually through a time travel fic, even though it wasn't tagged as one and I had to scroll through my history for hours looking for it after I forgot to bookmark it but wanted to read it again :') I've got it now but for a little while I was scared it'd been deleted. I'm planning to read some long fics over the next few days before my next class starts, so hopefully I can clear out some of the marked for later.
I'll admit it's a little weird for me, considering one of the fics I'm working on is for a completely different fandom and then both the Batman ones have different relationships and settings. Not to mention my original stories... I saw that you posted the new fic! I haven't had the chance to read it yet with the events I had today plus the mild doomscrolling I did in between those events. But I'm hoping to check it out soon!

The whiplash of working on wildly different fics is definitely jarring sometimes. You have to keep all the lore and characterization independent of each other and make sure you don't accidentally overlap. I totally get that. I hope the events went as well as they could have! And I'm looking forward to you reading it :D I'm hoping Chapter 2 won't take long, but my brain has been really exhausted at the moment. So, I might take a few days off from trying to really write anything. We'll see :')

XDD Getting new ideas from One(1) comment is such a mood. I'm not sure if you know much about the Clone Wars (2008 animated series), but ith my aforementioned Clone Wars vibe coming back, I've been turning over the idea of Jedi batfam..just...Jedi Master Bruce, who had Dick as his padawan, but now Dick's a Jedi Knight with Tim as his padawan...and Jason is the emotional support, force-sensitive, feral gremlin Tim found in a bucket in an alley one time. He's not technically in the Jedi Order, but he's too slippery (read: a vicious master escape artist) to keep in any prison. Dick went "I'm not having two padawans. He's more of a leech actually. I just can't get rid of him." He says as he carries Tim and Jason under each arm and scurries away. I was thinking of swapping Tim and Jason's ages too for maximum feral gremlin energy. and then like...dump Tim and Jay off with Anakin, Ahsoka, and Rex for a while, because that'd be hilarious. Just...crack batfam x clone wars could work I think XD It gets funnier the more I think about it.
Ooh, Star Wars. I went through a Star Wars phase a year or two ago. And the Clone Wars is super fun. My main focus right now is Batman and Ballerina, but I'll jump between others when I feel like it.
It's definitely interesting trying to keep all my fics straight, but I only have three, so they're not too confusing. I've always been good at keeping lore and plotlines separate. The only thing I'm concerned about is the fact that one is a more romantic fic and the other is just family, and I have this probably irrational fear that I'll accidentally transfer the romantic tones to the family fic :|

As you could probably guess from my above mention, I do know about the Clone Wars. That series was peak Star Wars and connected the prequels together perfectly! Your idea is pretty interesting. A random age switch between just Tim and Jason, just for fun? Dcik adores them but can't handle their teamwork so he drops them onto Anakin, which of course doesn't really help. Tim and Jason would just feed off of the 501st's chaos and add their own. All of them would be the ultimate terror of the Separatists.
Yeah, Batman is my main thing too, but hopping around is definitely fun :D
That's a very valid concern xD I feel like you'll be fine though. Best thing I can recommend is to reread it again just to make sure no romantic tones slipped in, but writers tend to re-read stuff anyway so :'D

Yeah, I hop around when reading fics even when I'm "obsessed" with one particular fandom. I can easily adjust and switch between them, especially when I'm very familiar with something.
I'll definitely be rereading all my fics a few times before posting. I don't have a beta reader, but I might ask my friend to read some parts of that fic. I've been reading one of them to my brother when I finish writing a chapter, so I guess that kind of counts as beta reading? I'm not super concerned, but it has bothered me a bit.
