I have just found this site today and have read several fics 'thank you' I am unsure how to join? I am a reader only I do not write or do clever graphic stuff so in order to comment and join do I also apply and wait for a invitation?

Yes, in order to join you just need to add your email address to our invitations queue - at the current rate you should get an invitation within two days (occasionally they get stuck in spam filters, so if it takes a long time let our Support team know you're having problems and they'll look into it for you). You can read and comment without an account, but there are lots of account features for readers as well as creators, and there will be more in the future.
