He could be drugged so he can't see well even if they didn't blindfold him. I like the idea of him in the custody of a creeper though, and the livestream being mysterious at first, on the dark web, like maybe at first it's just his unconscious face, then just his eyes when he wakes up, then it's obvious he's tied up and panicking, and that's when someone tip off the cops that this stream is weird. If the SVU gets the stream when his face isn't clear maybe they don't recognize him at first, just know that it's somebody distressed from the real pained whimpers and scared sobs.
Could be either or both, like they were just hooking up or started to get intimate and then Barba pulled way after Community Policing ,on rewatch, him and Liv were tense a few episodes afterwards, and he clearly didn't feel comfortable telling SVU he's been getting threats all year till the finale when he got cornered in the elevator...he didn't want to look needy, he didn't want to be coddle, and especially after Rollins had her baby he didn't want to pull Carisi away from her. Man that scene where Barba was finally telling Sonny and Amanda about the threats have me shipping Barollisi, especially if Barba gets raped or whumped so badly he has to go live with them for a while.
That's a good point. He's sooo tense in that scene, you can see it takes a lot out of hin to just tell them. :( And he clearly thinks it's cops, since he specifically asks them to pick people they trust for his security detail.
The thing is Liv was supposed to be his bestfriend, but she was clearly mad at him over him not siding with her siding with the cops in SEVERAL subsequent episodes, in "Forty-One-Witnesses" I think, Liv brush off Barba's first attempt to get her to prep for testifying -- and then she never told him abut Tucker, and then get mad at Barba again for reporting Tucker and Liv's relationship when Tucker was being investigated in Unholy Alliance -- and even Tucker was saying that Liv can't stick out her neck for him. So sadly, Barba didn't feel comfortable telling LIV that he's been getting threats all years, from probably cops. Barba probably felt more comfortable telling Carisi and Rollins because Carisi was studying to be a lawyer and Rollins had been attacked by cops multiple times that he knows off... Liv being mad at Barba is especially shocking since he's used to Rita Calhourn, they got along even though they were opposite sides in court, lawyers, it seem to be the norm for them to drink together even when they are opposing sides, like in "Info Wwars", but damn I think it probably look bad that defense brought him expensive scotch before he dropped charges.
I can see Barba dating and sleeping with Carisi soon after they met and then dropping it as it got serious -- and he started getting threats and Rollins got the baby. In some ways I think Rollins and Barba are similar, they are both driven people from very dysfunctional families that 'don't want to be cuddled, Barba just have to be more subtle and less extreme in his self-destructive tendencies than Rollins, because of who and where he is, and also because he didn't go through some of the thing Rollins did -- being raped by boss while protecting always troblesome sister. ...but even though Barba was the only child he was or still felt like the unfavourite, that Alex was his mother's favourite son. If Barba had secretly dated Carisi, he probably would disclose the threats to Carisi AND Rollins together so that Rollins's presence would prevent Carisi from outing Barba by coddling him.
Carisi was really tense during that scene too, as soon as Barba finally disclosed the first threat from that same guy, that he was approached by that guy who threatened to crack his skull on the tops steps, Carisi looked like he was angry and restraining it, and Rollins visibly noticed, Carisi was leaning towards Barba and if Rollins wasn't there he probably would have had his hands on Barba shaking or holding him. Carisi was half sitting on Barba's desk and looming over Barba, his hand on his own knee looked like it could easily be raised to touch Barba, while Rollins is slighter further off and wander off at some point while Carisi stayed close. Maybe it's slash goggles, but I'll totally would not be surprised if Barisi happened earlier in the year.
Yeah, totes agree, Sonny looks SO pissed at him. Amanda is more frustrated, like, you can tell she totes believes Raf would pull that, too, just live with death threats for a year without telling anyone. But Sonny is srsly panicking. That's not even slash goggles, I think, that's just the acting choice in the scene.
Amanda initially hid the fact that her old boss raped her and that her old precinct spread vicious rumours about her when they were up here meeting her and SVU...and get angry when Amaro tried to 'coddle' her, I think Amanda kinda get why Barba hid the threats, and it's totally understandable why Carisi would be SO MAD and looming, but that does stress Rafael out as well, that kinda reaction is why how or part of why Barba justified continued hiding the threats until it got to the point where the guy cornered him an elevator and made an outright threat to shoot him. I really got the vibe that they used to sleep together, or dated, but not at that moment, but the feelings are still there I think if Barba and Sonny were still dating at that point and not just causal hook-ups, than Sonny would have noticed the threats, but Barba deliberately pulled away earlier because Sonny got too close, or definitely after the threats started, and Sonny didn't want to push him, there was so much other stuff going on with the SVU squad and Barba seem to have things together when Sonny was shadowing him, but now, Sonny is angry at himself for not noticing earlier, and he really wants to cuddle Barba. Season 17 was very different from the ones before, it's got more Hannibal flavour, more cop show than court show, but looking back it was really the perfect place to end it and Season 18 ended up retconning a lot of stuff. The way it ended, Season 18 should have started with Sonny and the squad coddling Rafael, because the threats from BX9 won't go away.
Yeah, I would pay real money to see a scene where they all protect Raf just for once and give him some comfort. He deserved it so often on the show. :(
