    I know you want to keep the story fun, and paint them as inexperienced. But what kind of person meets their first alien in a spaceship, but doesn’t have shields raised (even on as weak setting, which for asgardian would be plenty).

      The kind that didn't expect any ship to be here in the first place, tries to conserve its limited energy supply and won't be making the same mistake again.

      It's also a staple of Stargate so I had to include it somewhere.

      There’s also the fact that Asgardian shields wouldn’t deplete as fast as the Requirement did.
