1) Hecate learns from Crookshanks to stalk Scabbers. Hermione's argument that this is just what cats do is proven, no one is especially suspicious of Scabbers or Crookshanks.
2) Hecate, being a cat, stalks Scabbers. See above.
3) Hecate, being a kitten (and so probably smaller than Scabbers) and not part-Kneazle, does not stalk Scabbers. Ron's point is proven, they take Crookshanks to Hagrid for help on training Crookshanks, and may in fact realize there is a very good reason to be suspicious of Scabbers, Crookshanks, or both (since the one has lived for over a decade and the other is part-Kneazle and therefore smart).
[Of course I was talking about the cats, nothing else important happened in this chapter, Harry and Ginny are just...involuntarily napping, that's all!]
🤭 you'll have to wait and see! Hecate was somewhat of a last-minute addition for me. But also, Hecate IS a cat, so you're right that her stalking Scabbers wouldn't be that unnatural.
