Barba is wonderfully witty and beautifully dressed, but Chilton is just so deliciously hapless, plus, you can keep him without a whole police squad going on the lookout...
Chilton also has the better hair, way scrufflier. How Will managed to just let him run and didnt keep him in his attic as a schnuggly pet is beyond me.
There's something about Chilton that's just more moe, he makes more bunny expressions and bunny noises. I also have the headcannon that while Hannibal is the best cook, Chilton is good at a few dishes and at cleaning, and knowing this, and with Frederick begging that he'll do anything not to be turned over to Hannibal's schemes, Will just keeps Chillifu hidden away as his attic wife. I can see Hannibal coming over for therapy session and stopping at the stairs, and Chilton clutching the banister saying that Will said that Hannibal is not allowed to touch him, and Hannibal being like, messing with other people's possessions would be RUDE (even though he has done it), and then Will just causally dropping that Frederick is not allowed to leave the attic without his permission and Hannibal approving.
Lol, I love that. I love Hannibal respecting that. "My beloved has a pet now, cool. Anything that makes him happy." Makes sure to bring some nicer suits for Chilly some day, so he'll look nice for Will.
Various degrees of scared throughout, most of the time, Hannibal LOVES scaring Frederick, he thinks Frederick is more likable this way and he loves the reaction in Will, which is, scared Frederick is delicious -- but this train of thoughts is not tasty...shouldn't be...
I can see Hannibal playing dress up with Frederick too, especially to surprise Will, especially around the holidays. I think he would look hot in a kimono.
It's like brushing a skittish bunny. Hannibal sits very still and smiles and watches Chillyfu num some snacks, until Chilly's relaxed enough to be dressed up nice for Will.
I creepily love the idea of Hannibal brushing Frederick's fluffy hair and clipping his nails, especially in an AU where Frederick gets hospitalized and it turns out he had listed Hannibal as his emergency contact, or Hannibal kidnaps him.
Gently scratch-pets Chilly's head, scruffles his hair a little. Esparza was at peak scruffysoff hair as Chilton, it's a tragedy no one ever petted him on screen!
Will&Hannibal just enjoying a quiet night in with books and a good wine, Chilly snuggled up in a blanket between them so they can both pet him. Like a good bunny. Maybe they drugged him a little so he's not as nervous as usually, but starts to softly purr.
That hair is so fluffy, I bet you can stick dandelions in there.
Reading in bed, Will and Hannibal sitting up and Chilton curled up between them, in a fugue state, sometimes he gets scared and confused about where he is, but Will and Hannibal have been so nice...
