Honestly there were so many questions I wished the game would answer, but didn’t. Just simple basic things like you said, like “what was Anne cursed with?” And “why do so many people live in one room homes when they have magic?” And “how has no one overthrown the MoM when they’ve historically been shown to be massively incompetent in everything they do?”
I would love to see the family tree though. I do crazy things like that as well trying to make sense of things in fic, and I love it.
Maybe Anne can start up the museum while Black is still headmaster and after he leaves take over the HoM teaching position like she really loves? I don’t think he dies until the 1910s, so she has time.
The Devs were trying really too hard with his “evil” arc, but that one really felt egregious. Not to mention, if you have to really mean it for the killing curse to work, even if for just one second, what the frak is going on in that household that Sebastian actually wants to kill his uncle in that second? Like that should be a major red flag. And if it’s just about him using the killing curse, why does no one care about the MC slaughtering their way across the countryside with poachers and goblins?
Somehow I didn't even think "Why hasn't anyone tried overthrowing the government before?" but now that you've mentioned it, I'm honestly surprised that it didn't happen more often. Like, at this point, Alya could get blackout drunk one evening and wake up the next morning as the dictator of Magical Britain after completely demolishing the Ministry over night while drunk as fuck. They're so incompetent it wouldn't need anything more than that, seriously. I also don't understand these people's living situation. You can magically extend a tent but not your own house? What about building up, Burrow-Style? I already wrote a rant about this under one chapter, but I just really don't get it. We're talking about magic here!
I made a Sallow-only family tree in Word first, but at some point the program was starting to lag and I couldn't add birthdates/years, so I switched to an online program where you can add SO much stuff - they even allow you to put adopted parents and godchildren and whatever, so it got really big really fast when I added Teddy as Alya's godchild and Neville's mother and Sirius as Alya's own godparents xD I'm gonna go figure out if I can send you some type of link for the family tree, I'm honestly so proud of it already and I'm probably not even close to done xD (Also, Draco, Ginny, Neville, Ron, Hermione, and Luna are all part of the tree xD)

I love the idea of Anne first gaining some kind of cloud in her chosen field. Alya will have it "easier" to become a DADA teacher after defeating Ranrok, but even she will probably need to do something else first. Maybe I will actually have both her and Sebastian work as cursebreakers or professional duellist for a few years and Anne could technically join them for the cursebreaker part. But like, as a team? They take care of the danger, she takes care of the stuff they find? I kind of like the idea. Ominis can be the exasperated Healer that needs to take care of their injuries lol
Honestly, I feel like in the wizarding world people don't really care about people being murdered so much as they care about people being murdered by this one particular spell?? Which makes no sense, since a lot of the other deadly curses are a lot more painful and far, far worse? Idk, seems stupid to me, but then again, this is Rowling we're talking about. The plot holes of her stories are big enough for Godzilla to hop through
I might actually kill for an “accidental dictator” Alys fic. It would be amazing - and perfectly believable considering both Alya and and the ministry.
I just finished another reread yesterday, so I remember the rant. I put it down to graphics laziness and optimization, because it’s not like the space in most buildings in any other game makes sense. (Though that does remind me - in chapter 1 Alya is mentioned as not having her scars, but in Anne’s interlude she can see the scars. Is that an Anne ability, an Alya willing them back self-realization, or me misremembering?)
I use family tree maker myself, but you have to pay for it. It’s worth the money if you find yourself long it al lot. Goodness knows I’ve never used it for my own family tree. I’ll have to look at yours when I get off work - I barely have enough signal for this.
Anne could even write the new textbook while recovering from her illness. Goodness knows HoM probably needs it. The rest all depends on when Hecat and Black retire, how much clout Alya gets for winning a goblin rebellion the MoM refuses to recognize, and their personal preferences. So many possibilities… and I love everything you suggested. (I can see Omnis as a healer… and maybe ”accidentally” poisoning the worst members of his family… there’s another family tree I’d love to see.)
There are some glaring holes in HP, many of which i didn’t realize until long after i stopped reading the books. There’s a chapter in one of flamethrower’s Of A Linear Circle series that is basically assuming this isn’t all plot holes, these are the troublesome things Dumbledore has done or failed to do over the last 70 years that must be addressed. I love it.
And don’t get me wrong. I still love HP - obviously or I would not be here or have played a game that made me violently nauseous - but they’re not perfect. And luckily we get so many fics trying to fix them all. Like this one. :)

It's weirdly amazing to me that people not just read my story (which is already kind of amazing) but they also re-read it. Absolutely mind-blowing. I mean, I couldn't be happier, but it's also weirdly fantastical xD I explained this in Discord once: The traumatic scars (read: the lightning bolt on her forehead, the Basilisk scar, the words on the back of her hand, the knife wound Pettigrew made during the ritual in fourth year) are gone, but everything else is still there. They're not ALL gone, just the terrible ones. Like, for Hermione her MUDBLOOD scar would be gone, just for example.
I actually made a family tree for myself, but making fictional ones is so much more fun! I wanted to use World Anvil in the beginning, but that is simply too expensive in my opinion. It's a great, sure, but I do not have the money to pay their fee for a simple hobby. Or for the actual book I''m writing xD Not when there are free alternatives But be warned, though, there might be some few relationship/character spoilers sprinkled in between everything. Nothing mayor in my opinion, but my beta said I should warn people of that. So that's what I'm doing :)
I have honestly no clue what the current text book is. In HP Canon they use the book written by Bagshot, which was probably already out of date, but I have no clue if that's already been written. Still, Anne writing a history book is probably not a bad idea. And it would give her something to do. I think Black died in 1925 or something, so he still got a few years left. Not sure about Hecat, but she seems like the type to be glad to give the reins to someone younger. But in my head Alya should be 30 at least before she becomes a teacher. I love Ominis as a Healer, I think that would be the perfect job for him.
When I read the book as a child I just loved them. I didn't spent much time actually thinking about everything, up until she made that redemption arc for Snape at the last minute. Then I started questioning a lot of things and the more time went past the more stuff piled up. I'm at a point where I genuinely dislike Molly Weasley and Dumbledore, while I absolutely adore Narcissa Black and Lily Potter. I still love Professsor McGonnagal, but even she made some questionable choices, and most of the time I seriously can't stand Hagrid. Filch is a nightmare. I hate most of the adults on principle. Most characters are so underdeveloped I think I might cry. Harry is so stupid that I actually DID cry about it one time while drunk. I wrote something similar once, I think, but now I'll definitely have to check that out because I'm curious to see what their list and mine have in common xD
I also said this in the Discord when the topic came up - What I love about HP is the potential it has. I love what WE, as a Fandom, have made out of the absolute mess Rowling left us with, and I love what the people have made from it. The things created by the Fandom are so much more magnificent then either the original Harry Potter series or any of the games or movies (or potential TV shows) made by the official channels and I adore most of it.
As I think I said before, this is absolute everything I could have asked for in an HP legacy fic, especially with time travel involved. How could I not reread it?

Omnis would be a terrifying healer, which fits. If he were muggle he’d bet the sort to carry a first aid kit around after Sebastian and Alya.
I loved the books to. Then I read book 7 at midnight release, finishing minutes before I was supposed to start work that day. And it was like a switch was flipped. I still enjoy it… but it is problematic. I think I’ve treated people to more than one rant about how someone in Harry’s life had to realize he was being abused, and since nothing happened about it it means someone had to be suppressing that info. (I’ve given it waiting in line at the wizarding world of Harry Potter at a universal, which was fun). I put down a lot of Harry’s stupid choices down to the damage he received growing up, which does a number on the brain.
JK had a beautiful idea but was not prepared for the scrutiny it would face. Plenty of books have plot holes, but none have had their light shined on them like HP. But… there are problems, and some she could have handled better with just a little bit of thought. It works well enough as a book series, but if extrapolated to the real world it falls apart.
Fandom has created several fics that are better than the originals, regardless of fandom. It is amazing that we can enjoy so many amazing stories just because someone felt like spending their time writing something for free online for fun.

Honestly, I don't understand why 'Healing' isn't a subject taught at Hogwarts. Like, you can take Alchemy in sixth grade if your potion grades are good enough and you're interested, but what about topics like healing, warding, duelling, or just basic creation? They don't even have to be experts, but I feel like two years of healing would be great for anyone. People who want to become aurors could take duelling, people who want to become cursebreakers could go into warding, and people who want to create broom or something could take creation, enchantment or something. Prep classes for the actual thing they want to do. Because, let's be real, if you want to be a healer, there is only one useful subject for you at Hogwarts, and that's potions. The hospital has to basically teach them something entirely different. Starting that education earlier would be so much better, in my opinion. My point is that Ominis would be over the moon if Healing were to be taught at Hogwarts and he would force each and every single one of his friends to take the subject lmao
It took me a little while after reading the seventh book to realise just what happened. In my defence, I was nine or something when I read it. I was just really unhappy with the naming situation without really understanding the implication of it all, and when I got older, I got pissed lmao I absolutely hated it and when I reread the books, I just found so much more stuff that I hated. I still love the fandom, but at this point, I refuse to even reread the books most of the time. I own them, they look great on the shelf, but that's about it. I much prefer reading fix-its xD
I think the issue with Rowling isn't just that she wasn't prepared for the scrutiny. Yes, a lot of books have plot holes, but Rowling's are especially gigantic, and she refuses to acknowledge her mistakes there. What I really hate about her is that she pretends to be in total control all the time. Someone points out a plothole and she acts as if she always had a solution but just forgot to mention it before, but the next time she's asked about it her answer changes because she's too dumb to remember her first one. She contradicts herself a lot. I think I wouldn't hate her as much if she'd just go for a "that's up for the reader's imagination" or a "I haven't thought about it, but I like your idea" instead of spouting bullshit that doesn't even fit the current narrative. At this point, it's simply a fact that her readers know her world much better than she ever could and instead of embracing it, she hates us for it
My problem with discord mostly has to do with the number it does on my PC. That, and having to be on Teams every second of the day at work makes IMing for fun feel a little like a chore.
Maybe healing is like medicine in that it is meant to be a post-tertiary level course in most countries? Like you can take bio and chem in HS, then more focused classes in college, and then actual medicine in post grad? Idk, either there’s a tertiary school system for the wizarding would or it’s a lot of apprenticeship and then the best apprentices can get proper schooling for healing? IDK. It makes no sense.
The epilogue is the worst. I think the potential for a Snape redemption was there if it had been built up correctly - “Of a Linear Circle” does this the best - but with what we’re given it feels off. And naming a child after a man that bullied you and another that sent you to your death without the guts to tell you he needs you to die himself… that just tells me Harry needs a lot of therapy he’s not getting. (I agree with you on Molly and Dumbledore. The Dark may have been trying to kill him but at least they didn’t pretend it was for his own good.)
True. We’re all human and make mistakes, but not owning up to them is a problem. Sigh. Writing is hard and i understand being happy you manage to get anything on the page, but… don’t be angry for someone pointing out a problem in it.
1) I had been thinking the last few chapters that Omnis/Anne was endgame, and I love it. 2) I also love that the Gaunt that sent Alya the annoying letter (if I'm remembering correctly) is Omnis' father, and he just basically told her to be as rude as possible to her. Oh to be a fly in that family's dining room. 3) Thank you for making Marvolo and Isobel Gaunt cousins, not siblings, as I've often seen. There are a disturbing number of cousin marriages on that family tree, but that's to be expected. (Poor Omnis, being siblings with Marvolo! 4) So the Henry Potter Sebastian beat in Crossed Wands last year is Alya's great-grandfather! I so want to see the first time Alya meets the guy. Especially if he ends up being one of the ones to ask her out. 5) I love that her great-grandmother is a Lovegood. And that there is a distant relationship to Malfoy. Oh pureblood inbreeding. 6) ...Sirius is connected to Neville's mother. I so want to know the story there.
1) I'm glad you like it! I have no idea when or how that's going to happen, but I just want Anne and Ominis to be happy, and I honestly feel like the two of them would make each other really happy. I don't think we ever even saw them interact, but in my mind, they fit together so well xD
2) I spent a lot of time debating on what their relationship should be - uncle and nephew or father and son. And while I still think that uncle-nephew would have been funny as well, I think that them being father and son offers far more potential for drama, so that's what I went with
3) I'm pretty sure that, technically speaking, cousin marriages aren't illegal Sirius parents were cousins, if I remember correctly. But if the gaunts actually married siblings all the time, they would have died out far sooner than they have. Matting cousins is still bad, of course, and I tried to represent that in the family tree with as many dead infants as I could, but it's better than siblings marrying each other. Also, that's just absolutely disgusting. I'm pretty sure that they originally tried to marry siblings, but then they realised that the kids came out weird and then they went for first, second and third cousin marriages instead. Still keeping it in the family and the bloodline "pure", you know?
4) I read in the Wiki that Henry Potter's nickname was Harry and while I know that quite a few people are aware that Henry is Harry's/Alya's great grandfather, I was hoping to make his identity a little less obvious by calling him by his nickname xD I'm currently working on the chapter that has their first interaction, that should be the one coming out in September, I think? Sorry for the long wait xD
5) It's honestly quite hard to find families without causing soem forms of inbreeding. They are all related now, somehow, but that's not my fault xD Also, I really wanted her to have Lovegood in the family xD She's also very distantly related to Neville!
6) tbh, that connection is just there because I have them both named as Alya's godparents. I already tried to break that line, but I guess there's nothing I can do :/ So I guess now it looks like they had an affair lol

It depends on the time and place? Some places encourage 1st cousin marriage to this day and I think like 10% of all marriages are first cousin marriages? But other places only allow it for 2nd cousins and beyond. Still, it’s amusing that all the Gaunt marriages are cousin marriages, in the sense of “well that takes dedication or else you really didn’t want to change the initials anywhere.”
I mean technically everyone on earth is related? If your ancestors are European, then I think the most distantly related your parents can be is like 15th cousins? I forget the exact details. The problem is restricting your gene pool too much. Like 5th cousins is usually considered perfectly fine, and 3rd cousins is probably fine too if there are no genetic diseases in your family tree… so a relatively small, relatively self-contained community like the wizarding world is probably okay until the population gets too small. Like, say, post Voldemort War small.
I do think Ominis and Anne would be happy together… but you’re right I don’t think we see them interacting anywhere so that all up to you a guess.
