Comment on The Instruments of Their Own Destruction

  1. Girl yes people always forget about Annabeth. If somethings enough for Percy to go dark, it’s definitely enough for her to go too! Excited for more, whenever that may be!

    1. Annabeth was my inspiration for this series. I checked on the 'dark Annabeth' tag to find it didn't even have 100 fics in it, which...😐

She's always been my favorite, and it's almost impossible to find anything where the focus is more so on her fall than Percy's. I do subscribe to the belief that Percy 100% could go 'dark' against the gods after the events of ToA and whatnot, but that story has been done so many times here on AO3 (him going dark at any time). Which isn't bad! And this take won't be him going straight off the deep end into edgy, crazy, OP territory, because that just isn't how Percy would go in his fall. It would be to righteous anger at the gods and their injustices, where the time eventually comes where they are no longer the lesser evil due to so many Great Prophecies and powerful threats rising during his life. Once it's the gods and an occasional super monster to worry about, and after suffering even more losses of friends and other demigods, he'd have enough and take matters into his own hands.

And I'm sooooooo looking forward to diving into Annabeth's character and her fall. Because like Percy, she obviously wouldn't betray the gods when Kronos or Gaea are so blatantly worse, even with her distate for several of the gods. But after seeing the gods fail at the most BASIC obligations to their children and people over and over, her pride would come in with the traiterous thought of "I could be better than them just because the bar is literally in the Underworld."

This series will certainly lean towards Annabeth being the central focus and POV because of all her untapped potential, both in combat and in turning dark.

Glad you appreciate Annabeth as much as I do!
