I love this and I realized I never commented which is a crime!! Soft Astarion stories always have my heart and there’s so much goodness here. But above all I really wanna talk about 1: your Tavs!!
Admittedly I have a very hard time being invested in other people’s Tavs and just kind of phase them out into a blank slate in the story but Val and Ker are just so different lmao I love them so much. Especially as a dragonborn player myself I loved all the little details with Ker written in, like mentioning of his tail or the way his eyes look, makes me feel seen as another stinky lizard guy <3 I love their dynamic with one another, Val is a sweetheart and Ker gives me major himbo vibes.
Secondly, the blanket. That line about him possibly burying his face into the blanket for the last time just got me. For someone who was turned so young by elf standards and in the way he acts you can tell he’s a bit emotionally stunted, I think Astarion would absolutely have some little “childish” comforts. And that last bit got me because I relate to him a lot and there have been things that are comforts for me, objects or characters or even media entirely, that have been ruined by their association with my abuser now. I get so happy when people write Astarion getting to act a little (what some people would consider) childish because I feel like he deserves that peace of mind. You writing in his security blanket like that means a stupid great deal to me and it needed to be said. <3
Fantastic work and it’s definitely inspiring me to do my own work on my… dozens of Astarion fic drafts that I’ve been accumulating since launch but never finishing lol…
