Comment on There's A Spark

  1. I really love this chapter. Coffee Talk and its sequel are my favorite comfort games and I've talked about this with my friends. Hyde gives off a very bittersweet feeling in the comics and in the game about how he feels regarding his ex-wife. We don't know much about her canonically but him being attached to the more fiscal parts of that person rather than their looks, wealth, et cetera that he always says are important to his species seems fitting. Hyde has always show he observes and cares more than he should about people around him. I'm glad to see that conveyed in his sentiments and memories for his prior relationship. It's a healthy take on how I've see others discuss his perception of marriage and love.

    1. thanks so much for your kind words, I really appreciate it <3 the relationship building in this fic was very important to me - i just think because of how long both he and his ex-wife have lived, they would have come to particular conclusions about the permanence of relationships, romantic or otherwise - especially hyde, I like writing him a bit more.. naive, in comparison due to the implied age difference between them.. at least in the game it seemed to me he would prioritize "flings" over anything longer term. i think about that whole "x fell first but y fell harder" meme and he's definitely the "fell harder" portion of it, lol. anyway!! thank you so much for all your comments, super appreciate it, hopefully there will be an update soon once i get settled with work stuff, but you have certainly reinvigorated my desire to keep working on this fic <3

      1. Based on the comic relating to his divorce, I always assumed he was indeed in love and truly devoted to his wife. Their divorce was a starting point in his long lifespan that showed him that even something remarked as eternal, 'love' has its limits and hooks onto things that don't last like reputation, wealth et cetera. In the second game it's also clear that Hyde views love as something fleeting. He consistently remarks on their long lifespans but how Gala is still a single moment that one day will disappear from his life. It's the very reason he fixates onto the barista and trusts them more. It's likely one of the first constants he can recognize. They are not only immortal (?) but will be present in each timeline they cross paths. And that's also why it's so important to see that transition of his divorce and him connecting love to fleeting things to seeing in episode too him accepting Gala completely and in that new love for Gala also finding a love doing something that can be everlasting, making memories (his job as a photographer and capturing still moments in time). Hyde is such a beautiful and perplexing character. I think you portrayed these parts of him beautifully and if you do update this comic or write anymore one-shots I will be so excited to read them. Your writing is beautiful and I love to see how you analyze the characters and add your own spin.
