Comment on The Invitation

  1. This is absolutely great. I luv both the puns and descriptions you use here. I’m curious how Jack’s first encounter with the reader was. Like his emotional state, and whether or not there was an instant bond he felt snap into place. Additionally, whether or not he thought their arrival signified some prayer of his being answered. I’m also wondering how superficial his relationship with the towns folk is, and what exactly is his role? Is he a teacher, town mayor, pastor? Again, I’m really curious.

    1. To further elaborate, I mean his emotional state leading up to meeting the reader. Was he sad, restless? Feeling as if something is off or missing even though he’s seemingly living the “perfect” life. Maybe thx to past trauma he’s forgotten past events, but still has flashbacks and random bursts of nostalgia. Also, despite being scared of his past, maybe he’s still trying to steadily uncover it. The tape and reader can be a larger starting point of this revelation, outside himself. The reader isn’t confined to the town’s restrictions or delusions of normalcy as an outsider.
