Honestly, I just like how so many people have looked at Astarion and started thinking about what sorts of trauma he went through.....and was like, I am going to write this man a hug/ snuggle/soft kiss.
I think the line about soft touches racking up debt kills me. You nailed how I see the character having a very transactional understanding of the world, which I think shines through with the ending.
The pivot between abuse and freedom is a hard one, and we wll navigate it on our own terms. Astarion ending this fic saying he's still not sure but it could be worth it its a great take and I don't think goes against cannon one bit! (I think of the breadcrumbs line about the potion. Because it does suggest he is still willing to do it for something.)
Thank you so much! I just feel like the boy needs some love to be honest. Even if he thinks nothing good will come from it. And thank you again. He just seemed to me the type that wouldn't understand debt free or price free love or anything for that matter. He definitely has a long road ahead of him to understand what an abuse free relationship looks like.
