While the English dub did not technically change his hero name, the translation lost a subtle meaning between Bakugo and Ochako's usages of the term.
In the original Japanese, Bakugo used the term "Deku" meaning puppet, as in a useless thing with no strings, which is an alterante reading of the kanji for "Izuku." Ochako heard it as the subtly different "dekiru," which can mean "never gives up!" - which, yes, sounds like a great hero name. As opposed to the English where that lingual nuance is lost and Bakugo simply uses it derisively while Ochako simply says it "sounds cool" and "is kinda cute."
It's not intentional, and stuff like that happens quite often in translating between languages. It plays further into Izuku's declaration to Bakugo during the Heroes vs Villains exercise, where in the Japanese he says, "Deku is a hero who never gives up," as opposed to the less meaningful, "Deku is the name of a hero."
For me, I wanted to take a bit of nuance in English, hence the whole "deck-you" idea. It's kida silly, but I thought it was different and at least had more meaning.

Aha. I actually have read English fanfic that explained the difference, but I've also read fanfic that didn't, so I get where you're coming from. I personally don't like "deck-you", but it's your fic and I'll not argue that you should change it.
