Writing Etain and Darman is difficult for me because they're complicated but dumbass but hypercompetent but ignorant but overeducated kids in a warzone. You just want them to kiss, except they'd stop themselves in an instant because rules, because regs, because duty and honour.
And then this fic - you can see them working through this while the crackle of awareness builds between them (I've often wondered if Niner/a medic could pick up when Darman sees Etain, from his armour telemetry), and then Etain very literally steps over the line separating them and Darman catches her and awww, they made it.
