    Combination of, "no that's not how I would act!" (lying, defensive and embarassed at being read) and "no, that's not how I would act!" (truthful, nitpicking).

    But no one there knows Kokichi well enough to call out any differences! I think even Shuichi was relying on wishful thinking as to who was still alive.......

    Also reminds me of a funnier take from a tumblr post where Kaito just goes around imitating Kokichi to annoy him postgame
