At first I'll be honest while reading I was disgusted with Kokichi like
How can someone manipulate people so much without seemingly feeling any remorse as long as it work?
With the last straw being Miu, like ik they both disliked each other but the way she basically used her like she was nothing, than got disposed of her and even mock her after she died was so disgusting that I was legit cheering the fact that he died like he died alone and hated like the pathetic bug he was
But as I kept reading I honestly started to feel more pity toward him that anything He's someone stuck in a mindset where no matter what he does he can't go on
He think he understand everyone around him when he only understand them on a surface level, he know how to manipulate them but not how they truly work
He dosen't even sees them as human and only as pawn that he could use to selfishly not have the consequences of his actions but he failed to realize that here he was a pawn too
That he wasn't any better than them, that he wasn't any more useful, he was just like them a participant of the killing game and due to his mindset in the end all he did was give Tsumugi the show she wanted
By trying to act like the bigger man he fell into tsumugi's trap, not achieving anything and with absolutely nothing to cling to
His fate isn't undeserved, it really is. But it's so pathetic that I can't help but feel sad
In the end if he had let people reach out to him or help him he wouldn't fall as low
But his flaws prevented him from going anywhere, and that his he met his pathetically tragic end, a fairly deserved by sad demise
I'll be honest tho damn I felt bad for Kaito like dude was losing it
Also I gotta say I love the way you wrote the script Due to its ambiguous nature I've seen some people say the kokichi predicted the entire outcome of a trial which is fftffuuguf7f5d
So i gotta say u rly like the way you did it
Also Kokichi really didn't find out about Tsumugi huh Her acting is too good
YES! Or, more or less yes XD That's my interpretation of Kokichi. Kokichi is an incredibly smart, incredibly manipulative person, who failed at *literally* everything he tried to do because he super overestimated how smart and manipulative he was.
Kokichi was overwhelmed! And easily knocked off balance! Everything he tried to do in the game didn't work because he seriously misjudged how someone in the plan was going to act. He was good at figuring out peoples patterns and really bad at understanding people outside of those patterns. Everything Kokichi did supports that, especially during moments when Kokichi was the most in control of the storyline.
The two plans we see him pull off in the game that even KIND of worked entirely failed to do what he was trying to do: no one watched each others motive videos during the Bug Meet and Greet-- which was the entire point-- cause dutiful and motherly Kirumi was in the middle of her own plot that Kokichi got caught up and hindered by for an *hour*, and stronger than everyone Gonta could only capture a handful of people. Neither of them acted towards their stereotypes like he had expected and so the plan didn't work.
And Gonta's trial was barely comprehensible, and I say this as someone whose thought about it a LOT. Kokichi asks in the beginning of the trial what happens if the vote is split and finds out both people would die, and does nothing with this information he purposefully sought out. He separates Shuichi from Kaito and pushes Kaito to have a mental breakdown (Seriously, everyone wonders why Kaito acted like that in the fourth trial, but that whole chapter was just Kaito just going through the fucking ringer. He and Himiko's actions throughout the game made so much more sense to me when I rewatched their major breakdown cases with their perspectives in mind. Both their storylines are genuinely good writing for Danganronpa, those two had a ROUGH death game), but doesn't manage to pin down Shuichi as an ally anyway and all Kaito's breakdown manages to do is prolong a trial that Kokichi tried to end literally halfway through in what I honestly believe was just a temper tantrum, rather then some key move in some big plan. Kokichi himself not even acting to his stereotypes. Gonta's trial accomplished literally nothing. I can only assume that whatever Kokichi's plan for it had been? It had fallen apart before the trial even began, and that was why Kokichi acted as vicious as he was. (Well, that and he was also coping poorly with the sudden End of the World, like everyone else).
And, well, his very last plan failed because heroic, stupid Kaito read Monokuma's threat exactly for what it was, recognized Monokuma wasn't bluffing (cause Kaito is actually very hard to lie to, he never actually believes any lies in the game) and decided to act selfishly, despite everything he and Kokichi had just sacrificed. Picking Maki and Shuichi's safety over a promise Kaito had made to Kokichi on his deathbed. Again: not playing into his hero stereotype. Kokichi just didn't *get* him.
Gaaaaaasp.... phew. Sorry XD Soooorrryyyy, you got me excited, I really wanted to gush about all of that. Sorry if that was more of a response then you were ready for >.< wrote you a damn essay, I swear. Thanks for the review Veni, I think I've seen you in literally every comments section I've ever been in for a Kaito/Kokichi fic, you're a champion for always feeding the writers XD thanks for your patience if you read all that.
Yea exactly, Kokichi is someone who lived in the mindset off "Since I'm better and smarter than everyone Here, they'll be my pawn because I'm the only person smart enough in the room" he overestimated how smart he was and how manipulative he was and that shown with absolutely how easily Tsumugi took over yet game again when Kokichi finally managed to outsmart her ONCE
As you said he's good at understanding pattern and what a person might do but clearly not why a person would do that
That show the best with how much he miss judged Shuichi's issue
And this is also show in chap 5 where he LEGIT BELIEVED that the cast would've just mop around not doing anything with the hope that they won't kill themselves
Insect greet is exactly like you said but also adding the fact that due to his own issue he literally created the two biggest suspect of 3-2 He told ryoma where his motive video was despite knowing about the motive because he DID NOT think about the possibility that a murder would happen so soon
And when it did happen he instead blamed it on Maki to free himself from the blame because from his views he CANNOT be wrong, that kind of what he does the entire time
I manipulated gonta into his position to kill Miu? He agreed to the plan, I literally used Miu as a disposable tool and than laughed at her death despite me causing it? She tried to kill me this bitch had it coming. My mastermind plan failed because of the amount of details I overlooked? Man Maki got manipulated by the mastermind...
Its what he does the whole game lol
Also regarding trial 5 I think Kokichi plan would've failed regardless of Kaito or no but ngl I'd say Kokichi actually did believe some lies For exemple he believed the mastermind lie HOWEVER Kaito never believed Kokichi's sudden villain act He even said that Kokichi must've had a breakdown or smth
But yea it's kinda funny how Kaito actually more or less understood Kokichi's issue While Kokichi thought he understood everyone around him when he understood no one
Ngl I believe if Kokichi was actually truly reached out and that he made an effort...i don't think he would've turned up the way he did
Now that just an headcanon but while Kokichi is a trash human being...i also think in the end he's just s sad coward like his whole thing is literally twisting the views around him in any way possible just so he can live in his illusion that his views are right, that he's never wrong and that the world around him is awful (unirocally his whole lie philosophy) like this wasn't shown in game but I kind of think behind all of his false bravado he was two step from actually snapping.
That dosen't forgive anything he did god no But yea, his death is pathetic that I can't help but pity him despite me also subconsciously thinking that it wasn't undeserved
And ngl I write long reply so that fine xd
Lmfaoo yea true, Oumota is like my fav dynamic in all of fiction so I lowkey check the tag almost everyday lol Unirocally started to write one Oumota fic too tho the writing probably ain't that great since novice and all but it sure does exist lol
And np xd Tho also thx for your patience for reading the reply lol
Gah, right, the Mastermind lie XD He did believe that one, damn. Way to drop the ball Kaito!
It's fun talking about this stuff XD And aw, dude, write your fic! Trust me, it doesn't matter how good you get at writing, posting never stops being nerve wracking @_@ it doesn't help to wait, just gotta start doing it. Feel free to let me know when/if you put it out, I'd be happy to give it a read~
(For anyone who reads comments, I did read it and I did like it XD It's super cute, definitely worth a read if you want to see Kaito and Kokichi goofing off!)
