Hermione let out a sigh of relief. “Oh, good. For a second I was worried that you actually thought yourself a professor.” I couldn’t roll my eyes any harder. I don’t think it was intended, but she sounded hella condescending. Of course Harry doesn’t think that, that’s a ridiculous conclusion to have without evidence. Does she really think Harry would be dumb/delusional enough to think so? I’m not even one of her haters, but wow. No.
Then there was the Hufflepuffs’ discussion. It was a very weird discussion. It seemed forced, and the topic changed so many times. No thought processes were explained. It made for a very fast pacing in what was supposed to be a friendly and calm conversation.
“Well, think of it this way,” Hannah said. “We should be glad that it is Harry, because he’s the only one fair enough to not take points out of spite. If it were anyone else, Slytherin would have no points and Gryffindor would have all the points.” aNYONE ELSE? HM? 🤨 I don’t know. Snape seems like he’d take a hundred points from Gryffindor and give double to Slytherin with half a chance. Meanwhile McG doesn’t even do that for her house. And being a Gryffindor didn’t stop people, staff and student and other, from bullying Harry. Can you not?
“I agree,” Ernie said. “Say what you will about the guy, but he’s not one to do something like that. He even gave points to Slytherin when they deserved them, and took some away from Gryffindor when it was warranted. It’s actually kind of odd for a Gryff to act like that. Usually they’re all reckless behaviour and Snake bias.” Said by the dude that spread rumours about that guy in second year. And that comment about Gryffindors—wow, good job stereotyping. How many have you actually had a conversation with about martyrdom and Slytherin hate?
“Hermione probably rubbed off on him after all these years,” Susan said with a grin. “Everyone knows how she is about rules and fairness.” This is such bullshit. Oh Harry is behaving really well, must be Hermione’s good doing. WOW. They must know by now who had the idea for their little illegal teenage militia.
“It really does,” Hannah agreed. “The Slytherin’s aren't all as bad as Malfoy, although some of them could use a lesson in Muggle Studies to get their facts straight.” Hnngggg I understand this sentiment. Really, I do. I love reading fics with Slytherins in it. But it doesn’t change the fact that most death eaters come from Slytherin. That the current Squad under Umbridge all consists of Slytherins. That they are known to be cunning, willing to do many things needed to achieve their goal. There’s adequate reason with the current example to be suspicious. The problem is that, with this paragraph almost right under the paragraphs that were sorta-disparaging Gryffindor… well, it paints another bias. When they are willing to look past Slytherin stereotypes but not Gryffindor stereotypes? Not good.
The fact that later, Slytherin Tracy Davies gets to comment about a Gryffindor being reckless but a Gryffindor didn’t say anything back makes me think this is an author’s bias. It’s quite frustrating.
And that everyone else was in on it except Harry, the subject matter, doesn’t really sit well with me. So what if he overthinks it? With how unsubtle teenagers are, the poor dude must be wondering wth is going on.
Harry came to the DA about the vision. You’re telling me that he trusted all of them enough to do that? I can’t really see it without seeing the development. I cant really see him taking the time to do this either, not with Sirius at stake. Harry would think that Sirius could be killed by the time the DA gathered in the last-minute meeting and disregard the plan.
“How do you know it’s not a trap?” a quiet voice asked from the back. Everyone turned to see little Denis Creevey blushing under their stares. “What if it’s a ploy to draw you there? I mean, it’s clear you care about Sirius.” Susan gaped at him. “Denis…you’re a genius.” The thing is, the Golden Trio already thought of this in canon and did shit to make sure it wasn’t. Harry used Umbridge’s floo to go to Grimmauld and Kreacher told Harry that Sirius isn’t there. It was logical to think that he was captured then, since Sirius sure as hell wouldn’t be in the Ministry as a wanted fugitive unless he was forced to. Instead, in this scene, they took Denis’ suggestion that it might be a trap, without proof, and ran with it. But what if it wasn’t? Do you see how much a reckless thing this is as well? The fact that every single one of them decided not to warn the teachers either is just—no. Impossible. It would be out of character and incredibly stupid.
I really like the concept of this, Harry being a legit Professor at 15, and the teachers making a game out of it, and the DA bonding, but yeah…
That you so much for the criticism! You made many valid points (some things for me to look at if I ever make another fic like this), so seriously thank you!
