Writing this kinda made me want to be in a relationship tbh but that sounds like a lot of work... I'll just wait until I make a really close friend who I trust more than anyone else in the world and then fall in love with them over the course of many years until neither of us can deny it anymore... that happens in real life right, not just in my fanfiction?
Man I have short hair, don't wear makeup, and dress androgynously and some people still have the nerve to be like *surprised pikachu face* "you're GAY?" so I cannot imagine what it must be like for anyone who doesn't fit the stereotype.
It sounds like it does! And I've heard from femmes and other not-butch lesbians that it does. I'm sure in some environments "looking gay" would cause me problems but luckily I haven't had issues, and it's convenient that I don't have to come out to everyone all the time because at least most people assume. (But again, some straight people still be oblivious af.)
Having a friends to lovers romance would be great, sadly I’ll need to make friends that aren’t either in a relationship or straight (I seem to be lacking those sadly)
I- well if you see me when I am anywhere but work you’ll definitely think “Oh that one married a guy and will totally be a stay at home mum”. I really want to cut my hair short, but my face is too round for that (it didn’t work when I was 13 it won’t work now), and I won’t lie I absolutely looove the girly kind of clothes (but still, just assuming is so rude). “Oh little girl why did your little friend called you a boy?” Me trying to explain the concept of being non-binary to an old lady I’ve never met before.
Thanks for coming to my Ted talk I had no idea I had so many emotions about this.
And oh god yeah explaining nonbinary to strangers?? No thanks just assume I'm a woman I'll take the hit. (Hell, explaining nonbinary to my *parents* is something I don't ever even intend to try so strangers? No)
Also "I had no idea I had so emotions about this" is how every single one of my fics starts RIP
When my eldest came out as our daughter, her elderly grandparents rolled with it and adjusted pretty quickly to “she.” But when we acquired a nonbinary bonus kid they had a tough time, never having fully grasped the use of “they” for a known person.
This book, which we gave them for Christmas that year, helped a lot:
