Oh my gosh, this was amazing. I totally thought Chat would turn around and catch the shield showing off like “is this it.” But then you had him throw Carapace around like a rag doll, take down his shell-ter and deliver a killer blow. I made the mistake of reading the sibling chapter first and I was confused as to why Carapace would touch his chest but now I know why and it is a hoot.
I mean come on, what did he think would happen when you attacked the most powerful miraculous user. I feel Chat is completely justified in being cautious when Ladybug is purifying the Akuma. You cannot celebrate until the danger has passed and even then their guard can’t be down. They never know when Hawkmoth may throw them a curve ball.

I loved figuring out the way I wanted Chat Noir to get around Shell-ter! My first thought was he should collapse the roof under them, but that's not very heroic to the residents of the building! Then I thought he should throw the shield with Nino in it (like a hamster ball), but I thought that would draw people's attention and Chat Noir really didn't want that. I dind't want Chat to be so overwhelmingly strong that he could just break through the shield, because that would come off as overpowered and even Hawkmoth had to wait for Master Fu- though they are two adults.
In the end it was all about psyching Nino out. He knows Shell-ter relys on will power to remain up, so he made sure to make Carapace nervous with the punching and kicking. At that point in time, Carapace didn't see Chat Noir as a fellow superhero. He saw what the Akuma's see in a fight, only a little bit worse because his eyes were glowing and Chat had his teeth bared. Nino was so focused on Chat Noir that the moment he was falling, he panicked and tried to save himself even though he would have been fine.
It probably helped Chat work off some of his hurt from Nino calling him annoying. It's fun to be scary sometimes!
I'm not so sure about how I feel about making Chat come off so strong. I think part of it is because this is a series of character analyses and so far the people who we've seen think Chat Noir is strong in ways that they aren't. He knows how to fight, he knows how to move, he knows how to take the hits and keep going. What Nino saw was Chat Noir using as much power as he could to freak him out, like a cat playing with their prey.
Ladybug is definitely the equal in terms of power, so I guess I'll need to establish that later? How would I do that? I guess they could get in a fist fight? That's not very friendship friendly though...
When Chat was watching the Akuma get purified, I think he was watching to make sure Rena and Carapace don't steal the Akuma? Like I think he's at that point in terms of trusting them, just to make sure they aren't angry with Team Miraculous and want to be stronger or something. Or...maybe he's just being safe. It's important to know what everyone is doing!
At the same time, he also probably thinks Ladybug needs her space before they celebrate a victory so he's trying to keep them both back. I noticed that most of the time, when she uses the Cure, people give her room to breath. On top of that, he's watching out for a Sentimonster or worse than that, another akuma or two!
