This is a fascinating combination of lovely, wistful, and dark – and the most fascinating thing is that the ghosts don’t feel malicious at all, but they don’t understand that the living need to live, and that’s both far more interesting and far spookier than it would be if they were just evil. I can see why Dany was tempted to join them, too, even though they’re all bloodied and caught in the moment of death. I love the atmosphere of the deserted castle in the storm, too, and the haunting repetition of the song, and I love that it was Drogon who unknowingly saved her life. That’s so fitting.
Thank you so much. That’s exactly the mood I was trying to create, so I’m happy it came through. I was inspired by the concept of “the call of the void,” the psychological compulsion to jump when one finds oneself standing at a high point. That idea is absolutely terrifying to me, so I wanted to create that moment for Dany here.
