the "why" is that i've been wanting a mixed media murderbot fic for a while now, and after some chewing on this plot idea (which was initially only the overarching story with yuzhen and nurul) i suddenly realised these two concepts could work together. though it did take quite a bit of brainstorming to find enough formats to tell it in.
and the "how" is simply that my emotion module just Doesn't Really Work Properly in 90% of all situations!! so i was mostly occupied with the technical challenge of finishing this.
