Comment on The Seven

  1. From reddit. Blaze is quite the character, man. I had a giggle when one of his claims of pedigree was Buck from "Call of the Wild," like a "Whoooa, we got a badass over here," kinda thing. It was also a good showing of how reckless he is, and that his lying about his pedigree comes up in the fic with mentioning Mr. Peabody. I think the darkness of his owner dying was a nice foreshadow to how it would go later in the fic. But before that, Bolt's friendship with the other puppies is sweet. Also those poor dogs... Thankfully it ends on a happy note with Bolt getting adopted and I'm glad that he and the rest of the Magnificent Seven leave on good terms. Great work!

    1. Always love it when you stop by, and thank you so much for the positive feedback!

Agreed, Blaze is a fun character. He's kind of like the bad apple version of his son, doing daring stuff for kicks, making up all kinds of goofy stuff about himself (even claiming lineage from fictional characters), and personally contributing to Los Angeles's puppy population boom (looks just like his son, though). He shows up later in "The Cameo," where he meets Bolt and finds out that they're not especially compatible (Blaze in fact proves a source of generational-based embarrassment for his son). In many ways, this is a harrowing story -- but there's heroism (courtesy of the pups who grew up fast and pulled themselves though a crisis) and humor (the little guys offer plenty of it, not to mention Corabell, Dorabell, and Mae) to provide much-needed contrast. It's not a fun thing to have the puppy mill go to hell and back, but Bolt and his pals manage to survive it.

Many thanks again -- very happy you enjoyed this!
