Not to hate on Mrs. Mac but the backstory makes little enough sense as it is. If Mrs. Mac was warm and maternal and paid full attention, she'd probably realize that he was out of the house at night or that something was going on. I don't know why she would be okay leaving a kid alone with modern reporting standards when it could come back on her, so she thinks she's a housekeeper who doesn't go out of her way to be nurturing. (He would have imprinted so hard if she was a substitute mom.)
