I got rec'd this fic on tumblr and I'm glad I decided to take a look! Personally I favor slightly angrier characterizations of Steph, since fury fueled her for so long as Spoiler (though a lot of people leave that out since BQM pretty much ignored that side of her, unfortunately), but this was still such an enjoyable read!! You did a wonderful job taking the tangled mess that is preboot continuity and translating it into this universe in a way that was both much smoother than canon AND sensible, which is impressive. StephCass is always a plus too, and you get so many extra points for adding in all those background queer relationships. I'm a little sad to see that Steph never gets to take up the Batgirl mantle in this 'verse (or at least, not by the end of this fic - I noticed this was part of a series but I haven't yet checked out any sequels this might have), but overall this was def such a good read!! I spent way more time than I should've sneaking paragraphs at work in between helping customers, haha.
Normally I tend to angle for an angrier version of Steph as well, but this Steph ended up dealing with a lot more of the self-hatred and desperation side of things, just because of the hand that she got dealt in this universe.
I considered trying to have Steph get the Batgirl mantle, but I really couldn't make it work; Steph only got it in canon for fairly terrible reasons, and this Steph stayed away for longer, not only from Gotham but from heroics. I wouldn't say she'll never be Batgirl at all in this 'verse, but I would be hard-pressed to come up with a scenario in which it would happen, given that Steph is twenty in this verse.
