Everything Grrm writes in terms of character arcs tends to steal liberally from English history. To keep it nice and fresh its usually mixed up however.
A lot of Sansa’s arc seems to be largely stolen from Elizabeth the 1st. Thomas Seymour and Thomas Cromwell are combined to form Petyr Baelish. The abuse, the toss between handlers and ultimately the inevitable rise to power after the death of all her abusers.
However, while Sansa takes bits and pieces mostly from Her childhood along with her seeming destiny to be a virgin queen. I believe Myrcella will take other bits.
the whole golden crowns and golden shrouds thing does kind of have the caveat that Myrcella is crowned at some point. as she hasn’t actually married Trystane she would not have a circlet of a princess of Dorne, which it also didn’t make sense as she was wedding the third in line leaving her to be a fondly thought of good sister to the actual crowned person of Dorne. that being said with Quentyn dead, and Arianne clearly shown to be suffering from a case of failing upwards she might make it there.
"It is known however that she contracted smallpox in 1562 which left her face scarred. She took to wearing white lead makeup to cover the scars." is a description of Elizabeth the 1st. "After the pope declared her illegitimate in 1570 and released her subjects from obedience to her," By the time her formal education ended in 1550, Elizabeth was one of the best educated women of her generation."
Myrcella is intelligent, well read, declared illegitimate, dealing with the religious upheaval of her country, and now will suffer from facial scarring the rest of her life. However, the biggest reason I think she steals from Elizabeth is that Tommen seems to steal heavily from Mary Tudor.
Mary Tudor is dealing with major religious upheaval where the old school is being pushed out by new radical ideas. She has an increasingly unpopular husband who is a constant drain on what remains of the countries finances and her legitimacy and reign suffer greatly from the failures of her predecessor brother who died young and her useless asshole of a father.
Tommen is controlled by the Tyrells who will remain largely allied with the old Faith of the seven still preached in the starry sept. this will put him at odds with the sparrows. His reign is hardly off to a good start.
"As a result of the war, relations between England and the Papacy became strained, since Pope Paul IV was allied with Henry II of France." Mary despite attempting to bring back Catholicism gets shafted by the pope who supports her enemies. probably an echo of this event is of the high sparrow rooting for Aegon.
"Philip returned to England from March to July 1557 to persuade Mary to support Spain in a renewed war against France. Mary was in favour of declaring war, but her councillors opposed it because French trade would be jeopardised, it contravened the foreign war provisions of the marriage treaty, and a bad economic legacy from Edward VI's reign and a series of poor harvests meant England lacked supplies and finances." Mary being Tommen the reach being Spain and Aegon being France.
One of the things that sold it for me is that if one continues the metaphor just a little bit longer is that Spain gets its shit kicked in the battle of the Spanish Armada as well as much of its fleet sunk in harbour at Cadiz by the greatest pirate who ever lived Sir Francis Drake. Cadiz which "A famous Muslim legend developed concerning an "idol" (sanam Qādis) over 100 cubits tall on the outskirts of Cádiz whose magic blocked the strait of Gibraltar with contrary winds and currents; its destruction by Abd-al-Mumin c. 1145 supposedly permitted ships to sail through the strait once more. It also appeared (as Salamcadis) in the 12th-century Pseudo-Turpin's history of Charlemagne, where it was considered a statue of Muhammad and thought to warn the Muslims of Christian invasion.[29] Classical sources are entirely silent on such a structure, but it has been conjectured that the origin of the legend was the ruins of a navigational aid constructed in late antiquity." Also There was this big false pregnancy thing that would eventually lead to her falling into a depression and greatly straining her marriage as well as her prestige when it was celebrated and then recanted. something that Margaery might be forced into given her dire situation.
I think Myrcella will make a come back. Despite the slashed face i think that wont come up quite yet as seemingly her maid is being sent back to Kingslanding in her place. Maybe she lives and the maid is the one to die, allowing the prophecy to work simply based on Cersei's belief. but otherwise as discussed its yet to be fulfilled. Its also seemingly apparent that Trystane is actually smitten with her. What's more Doran has not seen fit to have her used as a hostage, and its Arriane's idiotic plan that got her injured, a plan which was to raise a rebellion and raise Myrcella above her brother.
end goal i think tommen will die having backed the Tyrell horse until its failure against aegon and Euron as Mary did. and then Elizabeth is Myrcella returning some order by siding with sept reforms and making sort of peace with aegon, and maybe Cersei allying with Euron can be done here too.
all of this only to die leaving a northern King to unite the kingdoms and sprinkle in a little william of orange returning to kill of "her" father's murderers and the usurpers of "her" throne.
