Comment on The Seven

  1. From reddit here!

I've never seen the movie Bolt actually! I probably should. It's probably better than Secret Life of Pets. It keeps popping up in various memes on facebook lol. Long overdue I know! I've also never read a story focused on animals at all so this was different territory for me but nothing too unusual. I love the animated dialogue (pun not intended lol). I also love the "dog-speed" and "oh my dog" lines haha. That was a cute touch you did there.

This has nothing to do with the entirety of your story but I just want to say that you mentioned famous actor, Yul Brynner! He's one of my favorite actors since childhood. I watched the King and I on repeat as a kid.

You're a very attentive writer! Very skilled in writing detailed scenes. It made me super sad to see the abuse the dogs had to go through. I love dogs. I have a Carolina singing dog/german shep mix and a border collie/husky. Mutts are the best kind of dogs ;)

    1. Glad you came by and left such a nice review. And thanks also for making the general offer over on Reddit -- very generous of you!

Yup, "Bolt" is to my way of thinking a fine film, a must actually. It ranks as one of the top 20 all time best on my admittedly rather eccentric such list of movies. It's definitely better than "Secret Life of Pets," though there are actually some shout-outs to "Bolt" in it, most notably the "high altitude interrogation" technique used on the hairless cat in the former film. Bolt does this to Mittens when they first meet -- you'll recognize the homage when you see it.

Agreed with the German shepherd who is in awe of Yul Brynner. Fine actor, a little hard to cast because of his looks, but great in everything I've seen him in. And yeah, it was tough to put the puppy mill canines through such a bad time, but sometimes you have to do things like that to make a good story. Great that you've got a couple dogs of your own -- sadly, can't have animals these days, allergies and such. It was fun writing the dialogue, especially switching between the worldly adults and naive puppies -- totally different approaches needed for this. Love to challenge myself and take risks. Luckily, I've got a great beta to rein me in as needed.

Again, thanks so much for the supportive feedback, and glad you enjoyed it.
